for me, It's the sites that take it to another extreme and physically impose a inability to use the site or include annoying a all heck content.

Geekzone atleast do it to a reasonable layer.

As I mentioned some people install an adblocker without understanding is for every site they visit. As far as I understand, the "please white list us" is not against the adblock rules - changing content or blocking features is.

Speaking for myself (and I suspect the audience of whatever specialist list he maintains), but Adblock the company is to me entirely unacceptable BECAUSE they consider that any advertising is okay. Hence I use Ublock Origin, with multiple additional list subscription lists. If I like a sites content enough, I'll donate, but otherwise I WILL consume its content without letting it have any value from me. I will block any advertising, any please subscribe nags, any marketing/tracking cookies, identifying information or anything else.

Yes GZ's is fairly reasonable as far as they go, but even still I can understand why some would want to block it.

I'm keen to understand what might warrant something as serious as blocking an entire ASN.

Personally, I just choose to not be a dick and pay my $25 for an ad-free Geekzone - but everyone is different I guess.

So are we going to receive an explanation why an entire ASN was blocked? Did you try to block the developer of this list from accessing GZ entirely?

Plenty of ad blocking software strips scripts that test for the presence of ad blocking software, I'm not sure why you think GZ itself was being particularly harshly targeted. Just yesterday I was being taken to a page which required me to click through to the forum thread and asking me to support the site or disable my ad blocking software.

I've made my position on this issue explicitly clear many times. Until sites which benefit financially from showing me ads are prepared to provide financial compensation for damage to my systems that are delivered malware via their partner ad networks I will never disable my ad blocking software.

I think it is abhorrent that website owners think it is OK to collect money from ad impressions then when someone manages to deliver malware they pass the buck to the ad networks and carry on without penalty. The fact that a site operator manually checks everything beforehand is of little concern to me, it is the principle of the matter. The way I see it, website owners are unfairly externalising the costs to their users. I see no reason to support this activity given the choice.

I'm not against website subscriptions at all, issue is when deciding that unpaid adblock-using members get the shafted with a substandard experience. I'm not Anti-geekzone at all. However when list author's get reports notifying of site X has made changes that affects users in a negative way just because of a browser extension, its expected that action would be taken to fix or workaround?

Just not sure why a blanket block of an IP range was needed, or trying to achieve. Certainty got people's attention, I guess that's something.

Substandard experience sure, Implementing Admiral Anti-adblock which will specifically target Adblock users with an large overlay.

It is not anti-adblock. If invites users to whitelist or subscribe. All other functionality is the same. It is in my rights to invite people to consider these options. You on the other hand give no options or viable alternatives.

Admiral treats Adblock users very differently. If you just look at uBlock Admiral section; https://pastebin.com/raw/HvtAWv2k There is certainly no love for sites implementing Admiral.

I did offer [url=https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=4&topicid=238251&page_no=1#2052935]other options[url] There are always better ways to notify adblock users of supporting the site, but allowing a 3rd party Anti-adblock company isn't really a good option in my opinion. And it got some attention because of it. You may find it okay, but adblock users didn't.

I'm not sure we'll agree. I thought I'd let you know the details/lead up to this.

I’m getting the splash screen about using an Adblock when I’m not.
Just using the Firefox browser in my iPhone.
No adblocker involved or if there is I have no control over if.

@CYaBro - it will be Firefox tracking protection doing this. Had the same issue a while back here

EDIT: It can be disabled on a site by site basis on desktop Firefox, don't know about mobile though.
