Yea, I had noticed slowdowns which I thought pretty weird.

Good job, MF.

Yes... As it is the monitor checks for a txt file with a specific keyword. I should change it to check for the homepage - as it will be more realistic than just a simple text file which doesn't involve the database, etc. Will be changing this.

There were some threads on GZ about the Tienanmen square massacre , and Huawei .

Quite possible GZ got hit by the chinese govt.

The chinese have a significant presence here in New Zealand too. They are quite active in trying to control what local chinese are saying too. Maybe they could start hitting GZ from within NZ too. Although, it would be more difficult as we have laws and a democratic government.

Things like this make one believe that the government is right to ban Huawei .

I think you are going too deep into the rabbit hole.

Aren't most sites targeted randomly like this at times?

I just had the site drop out again when I clicked onto the second page of this thread - thought it was a prank...

This really messed up my morning... someone in DDos land owes me a few hours of my life back!

...but why!?

I don't get it.

There's some speculation in this thread that suggests someone out there has some technology that launches attacks on any forums that include some conversation they don't like.

...seems odd to me

I kinda understand when kids are playing and just trying to see what they can do...

I kinda understand when someone has a real beef and they want to modern-day-rainbow-warrior you...

I definitely understand hacking for money, blackmail, or if they can use your compute power etc

and I understand when the opposition Counterstrike team launches a DoS attack right before they storm your castle

...but I have a feeling that most attacks (digital or otherwise) don't really fit in to my world view very well.

Whats the point?

Someone grumpy about being banhammered maybe?

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. If you use my Quic signup you can also use the code R570394EKGIZ8 for free setup. Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.
