A heads up for those complaining a bit. Just signed up a nice campaign that will see pretty much all forums pages exclusive to one company for a few months. This means pretty soon you will only see one ad per page, nothing else for a few months.

As I said, I am trying as hard as possible to get things worked out. Always working for our users.

freitasm: So you folks think Geekzone is worth visiting and participating, but not worth a subscription if you are going to use adblockers?

That's why we can't have nice things.

I don't think that's quite correct. Personally, I would rather use the site with ads than have a subscription - for me it's better that way, but I appreciate others pay a sub because that's better for them. Each to their own. However, part of that is that @freitasm is very responsive (thank you, it's appreciated) to constructive feedback about the site, be it problematic ads, or some other issue.

The ad position in question floats over the top of the content, interfering with the page being properly read. If you close the ad and report it for covering content it respawns about 5 seconds later in the same spot. I expect people are commenting on it because it is much more invasive than the usual advertising.

And that's why I made a point of hiding the ad when you scroll the page. As you get to the bottom it disappears. It is not there all the time.

I don't know if there's something else going on, but I don't see any ads on this page except for the single affiliate link above the first actual post. Do see ads on https://live.geekzone.co.nz/

Ok, put me in the camp of users that find this wide ad at the bottom of the page incredibly annoying… I’m a subscriber but have been happy until now to have ads displaying as a way of supporting the site. However, this ad placement is just irritating and too dominant. Has any thought been given to toning it down/allowing it to be dismissed/even removing it?

Yes, and that's why we are running this experiment.

I don't know what happens but my Ad blockers get turned on again for GZ. I've disabled them again...
The only ad that is really annoying is the one at the bottom (i'll be honest....almost enough to make me turn the blocker on again). It isn't disappearing when I scroll down. Idk maybe it is a firefox thing.

For me it only disappears only when I reach the rock bottom of the page - is this the intention. So while in a thread I have to scroll past the page numbers and also gone past the top 20% of the "quick reply" box for it to go away.

Chrome101. Ad blockers off.

On some pages it disappears if you scroll all the way to the bottom - eg https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums_unread.asp? but on this page (the thread you're reading) the only time it goes is a brief blanking period as the ad changes. It's covering most of the footer when scrolled all the way to the bottom.

EDIT: and just to prove me wrong, it's disappearing on this page now too.

Question to everyone. Would you prefer to have an interstitial ad (a full-page ad that appears when you browser from one page to the next) that appears once a day only or the ad at the bottom of the page?

Thanks @freitasm My preference would be to cover the entire page, as long as it is limited to once per day.
