Hmm, Tried the "Feeder" app on my Android phone (No idea if that app is good or not) and pointed it at https://feeds.feedburner.com/GeekzoneForumsLatestPosts

It's almost there.

If it showed the individual posts (and who made them and when they made them and preferably newer to older) it would be about 75% there.

Might have to play with the settings a bit.

Mind you, the RSS feed is just a list of the topics as they are created. It's a firehose, and it's not updated as replies come in.

This is how RSS feeds work.

Yes - I see that now.

Maybe RSS is not the key for me....

I just use live.geekzone

Shows the three columns, zoom in and good to go, sure requires some fine motor skills to open to a specific page, but nothing that can't be managed!

I zoom in straightaway to the forums column on the left to make it a quasi-mobile site.  The forum thread posts arent' too bad to read after that.

Ditto. That's what I do.

A cutdown page with only the "Most Recent Topics" links and a slightly better format for the posts would be 100% ok with me.

(the actual posts require a lot of scrolling left and right to read).

Apologies - I realise that this is not something trivial to try and implement.

Opera solves that problem by reflowing the text.

Opera is my browser on mobile.

But I don't use the phone for web stuff - too limited space, annoying keyboard with small keys, etc.

Most of the times if something grabs my attention on mobile, I switch to the laptop, or better yet, the desktop.

I just swung by to see if there was any talk of finally updating the site for mobile as I love GZ but just can’t stand to use it on mobile in its current form, and was depressed to find this thread. I remember similar discussions more than 10 years ago. There are so many other forum sites out there that have solved this problem and now have responsive interfaces. It’s a bit embarrassing, isn’t it, that Geekzone - of all places - is the one place that can’t seem to figure it out? No disrespect intended, but it’s really time to modernise. No, I am not going to open my laptop or iPad for this one site when this is the device I choose for my casual browsing and it’s good for every site BUT this one. I’m sure I’m not the only one. If I was new to the site, I probably wouldn’t return as the effort required to engage is high.

I do worry for the longevity of GZ should it not modernise - if hadn't already become invested years ago I definitely would not be persevering in what's largely a mobile-first online world

I'm willing to be that there are only a handful of under 30 year olds on here ... The younger generation are not interested in online forums.

I think the best option would be to build integration to Tapatalk which has widespread usage across many forum platforms with a mobile app.
So if we wanted to start a givealittle and pitch in for getting it done I am all for that. I do however note that many of the folks in this thread don’t have subscriber next to their name, and most likely run ad blockers…. So I don’t know where the money to fund it will magically appear from. Unless the BFDL goes into the garage and sells one of his McLarens.

Please, no Tapatalk. The app is terrible.

ROFL. This reminds me of an old Soviet joke.

A family lived in a very small house. After many years the husband took some courage and talked to the Commissar.

"We need a bigger place. We have six people in a two bedroom house and no outdoor area at all!"

The Commissar thought a bit and said "No problem, we will solve it."

Next week, the family received a goat.

Now they had six people and a goat in that small house.

The father complained to the Commissar again.

The Commissar thought a bit and said "No problem, we will solve it."

So they took the goat away.

A couple of months later the Commissar saw the father and asked how things are going.

The father says "It's so much better without the goat!"

Completely disagree, for a couple of reasons.

This site is a labour of love, and it is completely understandable that the owner cannot invest time and energy in chasing every fad.

The site is designed to facilitate communication within the community. From what I see from modern social media platforms increasing the ease at which you can post only increases the inanity.

If a user decides to browse the site on a dinky little handset without buttons, that's their choice.

I don't think this is a problem for most users, judging by the number of posts on this thread supporting this request.

I for one probably use my phone for about 60% of my visits to Geekzone, another 25% on my tablet and the remaining 15% on my laptop.

This reply has been done on my phone.

For me Geekzone is perfectly OK as it is.
