No, it is not. I am still working through the code. The "glitch" was a database update.

Not going into too deep technical details, but we are now using the SQL DB to store temporary session information. This allows us to run IIS in a "session-less mode" which means less memory used - when you realise the majority of our traffic is not logged in, you'd see how much we were wasting.

Also we can now run multiple workers for the application pool (search for IIS Web Garden), since session information is shared through the database. We can also have this same information used by other applications we are planning. It also means we can recycle workers to keep a reduced memory footprint without affecting any existing session.

This allowed us to use SSL for login. The problem before was that SSL and non-SSL domains couldn't share session information, which is not a problem anymore.

Overall it should speed up Geekzone a bit (mainly for those not logged in though) with a higher utilitsation of our hardware directly related to performance.

Still working out some other performance improvements though.

Yes, at some stage (late in the afternoon) we found a problem with the login dates and the "NEW" flag for forums and other content, so I reset all logins. This is completed now.

so does this mean better tracking of 'new posts'?

I found when going between home and work it'd often have new posts being only very new posts. To the point where i'd just look at todays posts instead.

No, it doesn't change how we track "new posts". If we did change on a per-browser basis then you would read some posts here on Saturday and Sunday, just to see all those set as "new posts" when opening your browser in the office on Monday morning.

The "new posts" flag remains an account state.

What has changed is what I posted above.

Does what? The "New Posts" thing? As I explained, it's based on your last login time. If you want to see new posts for different periods, use the New Forum Posts page.

I had a few threads open in tabs on the forums, the I went off to do some work. Later came back, my login/session cookie would have expired by this point (I never use remember me - personal preference).

Clicked next page on a thread and the result was a 500 server error.

So seems to be related to login/session expiry issue there.

I see an error 500 related to date/time of last visit. You didn't use the option to keep logged in did you?

I've added a fix for that problem now.

That's right I don't use stay logged in on any sites really, prefer to use a portable password manager application/addon on USB for logins I haven't memorized.

Use for work computers or shared computers etc.
