IP addresses allocated, firewall changes being made, DNS TTL reduced to 30 minutes to allow quick(er) changes in the coming days...

does that also include your recent IPv6 implementation?

Ben: Welcome aboard! Like I say, fingers crossed everything goes well during the move, but the new home is pretty slick. 3 generators, gigantic diesel tank under the driveway, and all the mod cons.

Can I and Nate drive the gigantic diesel tank when we go there this Monday?

Oh, wait, it's not an army tank, but a fuel tank?

Damn...

graemeh: Ohhhh, moving in with the big, bad boys. I'm impressed :D

You do know they'll never let you fondle your server again though..... ;)

Not that I've done it much in the last five or six years.

You should probably leave a server or vm/vps running at Iconz on the "old" ip address that proxies to the new address.

There are a lot of DNS servers that cache much longer than they should and basically ignore TTL.

I figure that based on our analytics, most of the traffic will be able to see the new IP addresses pretty quickly after we change it. The impact should be minimal.

If all doesn't go well, I propose we spend the rest of the afternoon at the pub.

When is this event going to happen?

There is no such time at 12pm, let alone 12am.

It is either 12 midnight or 12 noon.

From Wiki: "While computers and digital clocks display "12:00 a.m." and "12:00 p.m." these notations provide no clear and unambiguous way to distinguish between midnight and noon. It is actually improper to use "a.m." and "p.m." when referring to 12:00. The abbreviation a.m. stands for ante meridiem (or before the meridian) and p.m. stands for post meridiem (or after the meridian), with the meridian being 12:00. Because noon and midnight are neither after 12:00 nor before 12:00 but are 12:00, neither abbreviation is or possibly can be correct.[4] The length of the error is determined by the smallest unit of time: 12:00:01 p.m. would be correctly notated, as would even 12:00:00.00001 pm."
