This is what the Android forum feed looks like in Google Reader at the moment:

There are so many duplicates because you're generating items with different GUIDs for the same thread. Google Reader doesn't just present whatever's in the feed at that instant, it caches older items, and (correctly) uses the GUID to identify unique items.

If the feed is going to do that you could make it more useful by putting the new post text in the body of the item, not the original post text.

I preferred it the old way where it only included new threads, and I could subscribe to the thread if I was interested.

+1, and the tweeting every update was cluttering up my timeline in massive batches of forum tweets.

Ok, removed the GUID from feed. forum feeds should now behave as before.

Thanks, I was thinking there might be a need for two sets of feeds, the old and new style, so that everyone can find an RSS feed that best suits there use.
I like the old style and thanks for restoring that.
Like richms said, it is good to see whats new and then subscribe to those of interest.

Interesting.

Although Mauricio has reverted the feed settings on the site, the feeds in my chosen RSS reader (GoodNews) remain thus far unduplicated (which was the original problem I reported, instigating freitasm's poking about, the subsequent furore Cool and reset ).

Long may this situation continue!! (the lack of duplications, not the furore - although a bit of excitement every now and then is good for the soul!)

Bugger! I knew it was too good to be true.

Back to duplicated thread notifications...

Duplicated thread notifications were never a problem - the news/blog feed had this problem and the GUID continues on that feed.

You will see duplicated notifications the first time because I reset the GUID to be the same for the entire thread, so that it won't treat each reply as a new GUID. After this you won't see duplicates.

Sorry, but to avoid conflicting with other GUIDs in our main I had to implement one small change to it, so everything will show up again one more time today... Then it's gone.
