I'm running a Nexus One (2.3.3) and use an RSS application called GoodNews, which I find easy to use and very responsive when compared to the previous app I used: gReader (should be renamed "CrashReader" or "HangReader"!!!).

The issue I seem to have is that I get duplicate messages in the reader (this issue existed in gReader also) - every geekzone message has a duplicate. The geekzone feed is the only feed I subscribe to which exhibits this behaviour.

I have checked the Properties of the feed in Google Reader and I don't appear to be subscribed twice...

Is anyone else experiencing this issue or have any suggestions I might be able to use to resolve this?

(The obvious solution is to unsubscribe and then resubscribe, but I thought there might be something else I haven't thought of that the combined wisdom of this forum might be able to quickly pinpoint)

TIA

I've seen the duplicate item issue with Google Reader. Interestingly if you look at the feed itself the items don't seem to be duplicated.

We use Google FeedBurner for this feed and it only started happening a few months back. However, being a Google service you might imagine the low quality of support provided...

When viewed in the browser, the feed definitely displays the same item twice...

I've implemented a GUID for each item in the forums RSS feeds, and also to the main feed. You shouldn't see any duplicates happening anymore.

Hey guys, not sure if the change above is related but my RSS feeds in IE8 is reporting new feeds every time an old topic is updated.... driving me nuts seeing 'New' posts but reading it is an old post and it is only a comment added today.

That is the new behaviour because of the GUID. Some people complained it wasn't updating and now you complain it is updating...

Might have to create New Topics and a Updated Topics feeds...

Sorry, can never please us all! :)

It's just the expected behaviour I am used to, all my other feeds only show new topics.

I use the 'Watch Topic' and get email updates to follow a topic of interest, the rest I can easily ignore, the current behaviour now shows me updates to all topics even if I don?t want to follow them.

As you suggested maybe it is possible to setup 2 types of feeds, one for new topics only and the other that tracks updated topics?

I am also having a issue in the 2degrees feed. It looks like the pub date is wrong, rather than it being set to the first post the pub date is now set to the most recent post even though it shows the text for the first post.

For example the following post
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=85&topicid=84628
shows up in the rss feed with a pub date of 4th Jun

It looked like something in the RSS feeds had been changed and all posts where considered new posts. In Google reader a simple Mark all as read has cleared the black log and it looks to be working as normal again.

After observing the fixes(thanx!) and the results I have these observations.

1) The current feed is now accurate wrt the name (latest _posts_)
2a) The current feed is broken in that entries link to threads and not posts (very annoying when the thread is 2+ pages long).
2b) The current feed is very high volume and spammy in that it contains a lot of unwanted content
2c) The current feed is bloody annoying for only containing the thread's title and not the posts contents.
2d) The current feed appears to have duplicate entries (actually not..one for each post but 2a)
3a) A "Latest Threads" feed (the old behaviour) is wanted(by me at least)
3b) ..containing the first's posts content.
4a) The current feed would be enormously useful if it was restricted to only threads I'd watched
4b) A feed of "Watched Thread's Posts" (individualised) is wanted (by me at least)

A personalised feed would introduce a huge overhead in our application. The number of RSS feeds served daily is pretty high. Making these cusomtised to each user would increase the number of operations in the database. We'd have to scale a lot more to get this done without impacting too much.

Since we now have a true "updated topics" feed, I think I could easily make it link to the latest reply with the topic text in the feed.

As for new topics in forums, please use the WATCH FORUMS button. This will send an email notification when new topics are created in a forum.

That's not "old" posts. It's topics with new replies, even old ones.
