I don't use adblocker and never will. Security reasons aside, I don't see any justification for doing so. You consume content from websites so you should pay for it.

I browse Geekzone everyday with ads enabled, and they don't bother me at all. I'm tempted to become a subscriber, but up until now I figured GZ would be making more off me through ads than the $25 per year. Didn't realise I can be a subscriber and leave the ads enabled as well.

I just turned my adblocker off and I get this video clip of surfing and when I move my mouse over it, it takes up the whole screen.  Turned the adblocker on again.  Don't mind ads, but ones that take over your screen so you can't see the page?  Hmmmm.

Video ads only start if your mouse hovers over the block for five seconds or more. We NEVER have auto-open or pop-up ads. My guess is either your mouse hovers over the ad because of where it was when the page opened or you have a narrow browser window - in which case we hide the ads but for some reason the div block for the video ad is being rendered on top left of the page. Please confirm which is your case.

Unlike some sites I've had the displeasure of visiting, geekzone doesn't have crap ads that hijack your browser, open new tabs without invitation, start playing stupid, scammy and loud "make a thousand dollars a day from home" videos, install unwanted plugins or other such garbage.

I used to pay $50 per year for a subscription and it was worth it for me:

Have met some fantastic people IRL, seen many people win prizes (not me yet, but I think I've won enough for a while) and awesome customer service being given by company reps on here. Mauricio has created a fantastic site and his dedication is worth paying for.

That's because I browse Geekzone with ads and as mentioned if I see anything I personally dislike, I block from the rotation.

OK, giving it another go - seems ok.  I'll just be a bit more careful over where I rest my mouse!  Ta

I appreciate you doing that very much. It makes this a much nicer site to visit. smile

Ok, any ideas how to whitelist GZ from an iPhone? I have two content blockers in my "settings", ABPlus and 'nope', but see no option to whitelist sites anywhere?

Ok, so I found the whitelist option in each individual app, and GZ no longer gives me that silly yellow "you're using an adblocker" page, but I still see no adds?

Mobile browsers don't get served ads

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Ahhhh..... so you have been to stuff.co.nz as well.

I have GZ whitelisted. But any reservations I had about adblocking Stuff disappeared in a trice when, at work, I was checking out some coverage of something we were involved in. My computer suddenly made a loud sound like a revving V8 engine, and tyre tracks smeared across the whole screen, before it went to a full page interstitial for (from memory) Beaurepairs. Everyone around me looked up to see what the the sound was. Thoroughly obnoxious behavior, and I'm pleased MF doesn't allow it here.

Not an issue any more since Stuff pretty much has too little content to justify a visit, with or without ads.

Stuffed has the odd bit of useful news, but the majority of the content is little better than women's weekly style gossip IMO.

The Countdown ad currently playing on random Geekzone pages is really annoying. I avoid scrolling over it but as I scroll down the page the ad follows me, before opening up full screen. That would be ok if I could close it but the x is obscured. After the ad has played it is stuck on the page, I can't access the content in the threads. Is it a glitch with this particular ad?
