freitasm:

Apart from this obvious drawback (blocking ads that obviously keep our site running by paying our costs), ad blocks are in my opinion are resource hog you don't need.

In my opinion the resources you save by not waiting/downloading ads outweigh any potential resources used by an adblocker.  And I certainly wouldn't go as far as to call adblock plus a resource hog.

How can you stand going to some sites without using one?  For example stuff.co.nz, so many in your face ads...

Aaroona: Just a radom question..

Did you change your username?!

I sure did...

I wanted to simplfy my user names on all the sites I use...
I previously had:
TheBartender = Geekzone
NZeeter = Twitter
euanandrews = Facebook
KiwiN97 = Nokia sites
MobiKiwi = Qik

I have changed all to simply euanandrews...although my Nokia site will take longer as I want to upload all my photo, videos, contacts and calender...had to create whole new profile there, pain ITA, everywhere else was a simple user name change.

You should know I take care of you... And ad agency contacted me asking for some ad space this month, which we don't have. They then asked me if I could put a second skyscraper on the right side of the forum. You can see that since the skyscraper is not there what my response was...

Hi, only just twigged as to why GZ seemed such a faster, nicer place, we killed all the ad men. Thanks MF much appreciated, think I might have to take up a sub.

That killing the ad men bit, reminds me of that one from Hitch hikers guide where they placed all the hair dressers, and ad men in the "Lead Ship" to search for the new frontier in space :)

Thanks for that MF - much appreciated.

At the risk of going over old ground, I would happily pay for a subscription if I had an option to pay in NZ$, either via my credit card or direct credit to your bank account. I don't have a Paypal account, and don't want to get one. ( My apologies in advance if you have already added one of those options! )

kind regards Andrew TD

People have been PM me asking for my bank account to pay. We are making it NZ$60/yr.

Awesome!  Do we need to PM you for the details to take advantage of paying via NZ$ or will you there be a page going up to subscribe ... I'm a bit lost and can't see a pay now button?  (Or have I jumped the gun here?)

Thanks!

*** IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING SUBSCRIPTION PAYMENTS ***

I have updated the subscription payment options to accept NZ$.

Payment is still processed by Paypal. You do not need to have a Paypal account though. Just look at the payment page and you see an option to pay with either your Paypal account or credit card only.

I have updated prices accordingly. You can subscribe Geekzone for NZ$60/yr or NZ$7/mo.

Payments are recurring, that is they automatically occur at the end of every cycle. If you cancel the subscription (or I cancel it for you) there is no pro-rata refund - the subscription will still run through the end of the period.

I prefer not to receive bank payments - it's easier to manage the Paypal account and it's all automatic. You don't pay more for that.

So go ahead and subscribe here.

Will this adjust automatically for those already subscribing prior to the change in rates? Cheers

No. If you want to change then you have to cancel your subscription on Paypal and then subscribe again.

I was going to subscribe the minute you announced it in NZ dollars. I wanted the certainty of a regular amount each month/year not subject to fluctuations in currency. Imagine my surprise when I log in today to subscribe and find the trial. Thanks MF!! I can now hold onto my money until November....
