Instead of "News" would you folks prefer for us to move the Friends list to the right column and add the Geekzone Chat widget to the middle column instead?

Maybe if you added 'reset read flags' on this page it would be helpful

Hmm, interesting idea. Will have to live with it for a while before deciding whether I hate/love! Thanks for providing it though. Keep innovating.

maknz:
Are you considering adding the forum post auto-refesh to the main site? - i think that would be really cool.

+1

I have the auto refresh forum post in our main page now, only for logged in users. Let's see how it goes.

If you are not logged in you get to see the old static style. If you login and leave the frontpage open it will refresh every 10 seconds, like live.geekzone.co.nz does.

There appears to be issues with the read flag not being cleared as the live page always shows the thread as new even if you have read the flag.

Is the trigger to make it as read setup on exiting a page instead of opening the page?
e.g. when using live i click and open the threads in a new tab once done I close the tab.
has the change affected the logic for a thread being marked as read?

There is no change in how we show a thread or anything else as "new". It's always been based on "if posted since your previous login time".

Not the live forum feature in our main page can be turned on/off based on your Profile page preferences now.

But here I am.

So that's the time I check Geekzone when I woke up this morning.

I then slept my computer at home and came into the office Geekzone was already open in my browser and I carried on and that time doesn't get updated.

So how does that value get updated?

If you have your office set to automatically login then its session never expires and it will use the 6:46am as the last previous login.

I have both home and the office set to auto login because I'm lazy and this isn't exactly my bank so don't need to lock it away.

Is there any other way we can look at implementing this?

Another suggestion:
Maybe prefix each heading with the forum its from.
So when you see things that may fall into multiple categories you can decide to open it or not.

e.g. ISP based questions are a good examples
e.g. http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=44&topicid=68498

The heading alone makes it hard to see who has the issue or if its something I can contribute to. If its from an ISP that I dont use then there is no point in opening it.
But if its from my ISP i may be able to help.
