richms: If you are getting connection refused from www.googletagservices.com , www.google-analytics.com , www.gstatic.com and then something is blocking it. You havent gone and put a hosts file in redirecting it to a different IP address have you? One of the misguided things that some privacy nuts do is suggest that people put sites in there that they dont like pointing to localhost.

You nailed it right on the money! Thank you SO much. I wish I could give more than just a single +1. The Hosts file is about 600kb and probably more than 10 years old. I have always been paranoid about my privacy and in the past I used some pretty blunt instruments. I'm not sure I ever would have thought to look there. Thanks again.

And have you checked your hosts file, as per previous pages?

I found my problem for those that are interested. (Nothing to do with OpenDNS and local cookies are I originally thought)

I had the following filters ticked on my DD_WRT router.

- Filter Cookies (Identifies HTTP requests that contain the "Cookie:" string and mangle the cookie. Attempts to stop cookies from being used.)
- Filter Proxy
- Filter Java Applets

I assume it was the filter cookies option that was messing things up.

Previously I also was unable to connect to windows update (I thought this was a new Windows 10 bug). After I unticked filter Proxy it seemed to have fixed that problem.

Check your filter settings on your router if you are having any similar problems. Here is where mine are located:

Sorry had new pc back to get some upgrade tweaks. Confirmed hosts has zero entries. The box does not appear. Chrome works fine and are posting from home with that but a workaround for Opera would be awesome.

Not sure will do anything about Opera, sorry. It's not even 1% of our traffic.

On other news I've fixed a problem where you could enter passwords of any length on registration and profile pages, but the login page allowed only 32 characters. This might explain a couple of problems reported in the last year or so - obviously not many people use long passwords. No matter, it's fixed now.

Opera 12 has a lot of quirks like this. I clung to it as long as I could because I like it so much better than any modern browsers but I finally had to abandon it. There are just too many sites that no longer work correctly with it. The captcha issue is also a typical Opera 12 fail. It is simply too out of date. I now use Slimjet, based on Chrome, but closer in spirit to Opera 12 than anything else I have found.
