Has something changed with the Geekzone login? All of a sudden I can't log in from any browser under XP. Win 7 and 8.1 work normally. With XP I get some weird captcha stuff and problems with the site not being 'secure'. Not sure what is going on but it only just started happening.

Yes. We moved to have a captcha on login page.

Ok, for some reason I'm not seeing it. I just get a nag message about not filling it in. With Chrome also some weird stuff about HTTPS being disabled and it tries to do the login with HTTP. It all gets a bit jumbled.

Also, to RUKI (who posted in another thread)... The image captcha is only shown if the Captcha system has doubts about your click in the checkbox. I've only seen food images so far, so I am guessing they really want to find out if you are human...

I am not so sure, mate. Maybe I am not.
But hey, captcha has brains - it is not 11 am yet (not a lunch time yet) and captcha did not show a thing. Yesterday - just before heading to dinner - it showed plenty of meat to choose from the captcha and surely there it was - I had meat loaf on getting back home.
How did you do that? How captcha new what was happening in my kitchen that night?

As soon as I gave a hint that I might not be a human (was testing) captcha has started showing me food again.
No, not that smart. I already had my meal and it offers me soup. Stupid, I want dessert now!

This is exactly why you should fear Google!

I fear nothing, mate. That was a mix of a joke and sarcasm and also a little tiny little blurp written between the lines to our host that "food captcha is not cool".

I lived without Google on the net in 1994, I use Google to help me when I need it 20 years later. And I use captcha on my own site. Simple one, not the one with food.

I would not display a "food" captcha to any person who might be hungry at a time.

Talking about fear: people do provide voice samples on the net. There will be no jobs for many people in all sorts of call centres in the nearest future. But that is a discussion for another topic. My recent experience with two local call centres makes me thinking that in some simple cases robots will do a better job and waste less of my time. As they would have more knowledge in their database to attend to non-standard scenarios which newbies in the call center have never came across.

P.S. while typing this - session expired and I had to see that food captcha again. IP have not changed - WTF the captcha for again? Not cool and I am hungry again...

It might be appropriate to let us know why the normal login has become unacceptable.
What is the worry? Could someone somehow get my login name and password and use it to pretend to be me. Oh of course putting in my login name and password is a form of captcha
This would be one of the most time consuming logins I have seen so far, partly because the images are so small.
My gut feeling is that it will discourage posting spontaneously if we have to go through this rigmarole every time we want to login.

I must confess to not being a geek. I come to this site to see if some geek rubs off on to me.
I managed to magnify your screen capture by 400% to read it.

Yes I have ticked that box, but when I log out and then login, I am still required to do the captcha.

That's because you're overriding it by manually logging out.

Browsing across a few devices, some of which I want to be private, makes this capture a real pain.
I don't mind logging in but this seems like a step too far.

It sets a cooke and you stay logged in until that cookie expires or you click to log out, same as almost every other website on the internet?

Not sure why that makes it hard to use. If you are not logged in then the last read stuff doesnt work either.

As long as you don't log out, it will keep you logged in across reboots, browser closures etc. just not clearing your browser cache etc.
