See my reply about browser window width and let me know if that's the case.

I'm really getting annoyed about the Melbourne Uni video that keeps popping up.  Where am I supposed to avoid putting my mouse so I can stop it. I've tried going into the thread three times and get it each time.

The mouse pointer shouldn't hove over the video. Again, what is the width of your browser window? Is it maximised - if yes what's the monitor resolution?

In this case the mouse pointer must be hovering over the square area right side of the topic post for longer than five seconds. It actually shows a little animation on the bottom right side of the ad while the timer/countdown is running.

I hate ads but love paying the subscription! Such a trivial amount for all the amazing knowledge I can tap into. Just getting access to my ISP troubleshooters has got to be worth it, alone.

So, keep truckin' MF, your efforts, and those of the knowledgeable contributors, are appreciated.

As a side issue, the quick reply box was working fine yesterday.

Today, I'm back to the message that I need to whitelist GZ in my ad blocker to enable quick reply. But GZ is still whitelisted in my blocker.

Any chance of a screen shot - I'm still struggling with this.

I see this... and that square only starts playing if the mouse cursor hovers over it for five seconds. Also while the cursor is on top of it the square slowly grows larger - there's no way to not see it happening. There's no autoplay involved. I can only think there's something (add-on, malware) on your browser that is triggering this.

My screen looks like this:  https://1drv.ms/i/s!ArInyyRs-8YguXsNSx4iVgtmenTB

I don't mind it being there except that it covers the posts.  Sometimes I manage to avoid it but I'm not sure how I'm doing it.  I can't see where to avoid placing my mouse.

Thanks. I have only seen that on small screens. Have you tried Incognito with all add-ons disabled?

What is your browser and ad blocker software?

Firefox, with Adblock Plus (GZ whitelisted), Ghostery (GZ whitelisted), Flashblock, and NoScript (disabled on GZ).

I also have an extensive hosts file under the \etc directory that maps a large list of known malware and other undesirable sites to 127.0.0.1. That isn't about to be removed.

@freitasm unfortunately you're always going to get some selfish/scroogy people who don't appreciate all the work that someone like you puts into a site like GZ. Many, many of us here appreciate what you do (speaking for myself here, even if I don't understand a lot of the technical side of what you just said above). Please don't let the negative nay-sayers get to you! smile

Just think: without geekzone, we'd probably all have to go get lives or something! tongue-outyellsurprised

An important thing to remember that some people cannot afford the $25. These same people are certainly allowed to hate ads too.

I mean I understand the argument about efforts and dedication and I agree with it, but when there is no $25 in your pocket all the above does not really matter when it comes to paying.
