I have a full time job (Mauricio Freitas | LinkedIn) and the work I do here (maintaining the site, IT admin, backup, security, moderation) is free. Our moderators do their bit, for free. I pay them with my friendship.

It’s interesting that some of the most vocal complainers here are people who are not subscribers - so they are complaining about something they get for free.

Well technically we are the ones that do pay with adds 🤣

Have you any idea how many cents per month your ad revenue contributes?

Hint: It's not very many.

I will clarify then.

No, it's not much. We make NZ$ 0.004 per pageview with ads.

Remember that many people who block ads also block tracking, so it's probably even less when accounting for that.

It doesn't look like much, but every cent counts.

Batwing: Not brave enough to show us the compose text box on mobile though lol, that's what doesn't fit. Barrier to engagement not so much lurking.

Both this reply and my last post composed entirely on my S23, in Chrome, including the image uploads.

Alright you took the bait and showed me up. Now I want a new phone.

What about a geekzone discord for zoomers, only sorta joking...

There used to be a Slack but I think that died...

And honestly Discord is not suited for not just the user base but even as a forum.

I'm about to fix some sites that have issues with mobiles and it's a task to get it right and even then you won't get it right with all devices.

I'm about 50/50 (mobile and desktop/laptop) and honestly... I've had some weird experiences but nothing game breaking.

Ramblings from a mysterious lady who's into tech. Warning I may often create zingers.

FWIW my only issue with using the site with mobile, is the quoting of other posts. Quick Replies are simple. A Head-Fi.org type quoting system has long been on my wishlist, but I understand the constraints.

GeekzoneNZ subreddit on Reddit would be a nice alternative as well.

We don't need more septic negativity and toxicity thanks. Reddit is a cesspool.
