Why? The kill file is only applied to YOUR view of the forum. Everyone else sees the non-filtered version.

Why do I have the impression people think of this feature as a "I am now empowered to ban users and hide their posts FOR EVERYONE!" when it's not?

Well, first of all I'm not disagreeing and I understand exactly what you propose.

I am observing a killlist user will be unaware of the contents of some posts and for some users it will be unclear what exactly what the killlist user is replying to.

Experienced users will tend to intuit over time others killlists and will understand what has occurred.

Well, first of all I'm not disagreeing and I understand exactly what you propose.

If this was an option and I use the'plonk' button in a particular thread, would this 'hide' posts by that user in all threads?

As a forum user I've learnt to implement my own filters,. In some threads a user may have an opinion or input I'll read, but I'll ignore their comments in other post threads. Realistically we're all"plonk"candidates at some time.

Personally I'd rather see a way of showing a positive recognition of posters/forum users that could motive others to get positive recognition. Whilst 'plonk' allows you to ignore a poster whose views you don't share it hardly helps plonkers learn better forum etiquette, not to mention there's an implied arrogance in ignoring parts of any discussion (not acknowledging a post is quite different from being ignorant to it's existence).

Not familiar with the XDA 'thanks'. Haven't spent enough time there.

But if it's similar to +1, that would be good. Really I suppose I was thinking along the lines of an indicator that showed others respected/valued your posts.

The Trusted mark doesn't reflect the value of your peers to the forum. (But it does have it's place)
Plonk (even though it's a personal and non visible action) just seems like a negative, rather than a positive, way to improve the forum process.

A compressed 'hide' feature would be helpful. A javascript to just condense/hide the post area then all you see is:

DonGould - This post hidden by your request - show/hide

So, if I want to see what that guy said I can just click on 'show' and it unhides that post.

Whirlpool.net.au has some very good features in this respect, though I've never actually noticed much need for it here on GZ. Most people seem to be fairly polite most of the time.

If you do put a plonk feature in then I also think you should have user visible stats on it.

I think that would give people a heads up if they're annoying others and others a heads up if that user can be less trusted.

I also suggest a feature to hide (per above) all posts from any user who has over X plonks. Where X is a value I set myself in my profile. So, posts are just filtered out automatically from any one with more than 10 plonks, but you might want to give them 15 chances.

I see no benefit for it. It may just make threads disjointed, and will potentially increase the number of duplicate posts (the plonker asking/suggesting things that the plonkee might have already posted).

Why can't we just use the manual plonk method we already have, by just skipping past posts of those we want to ignore? It's not like we are talking about 100s of posts...

Finally if I could just make an observation (and potentially be a candidate for being plonked!). The OP asked for feedback on this feature, and seems to be questioning a lot of the subsequent posts against the idea. Why not just implement the feature rather than ask users first? It appears to me that it is a forgone conclusion. Like I said, just my observation.

At one stage of discussion OP totally lost it and got the shotgun out firing indiscriminately. Collateral damage also occurred to non-combatants.

OP later showed admirable restraint in same thread - maybe after restoring caffeine balance.
