freitasm:

Thanks - what is that browser? Are you at home? Does your router have ad/script blocking (built-in or hosts file)? Or is this on mobile only?

Safari on iPhone, @ home on wifi, I block outbrain (which includes images.outbrain.com, widgets.outbrain.com, ds.serving-sys.com and cl.netseer.com) on the router. Does GZ use any of those?  Note that the adverts still display

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

I had no idea that there were so few subscribers, MF. frown

If you're a regular user of gz, please think about supporting it either with a very cheap annual subscription or allowing ads. No one likes ads, but they are a necessary reality.

RunningMan:

EDIT: and now a captcha check to post as well.

@RunningMan interesting... @MichaelMurfy reported the same via PM. I have whitelisted NZ IP addresses on Cloudflare so it's interesting that TWO cases appeared on the same day. Either a glitch or something is going on in NZ IP space.

@freitasm, don't apologise for the long reply - it's a good thing :-)

Your work, and that of the other mods is greatly appreciated - thanks for the efforts you all put in. I can't speak for everyone, but my preference is to support GZ by seeing ads, rather than subscribing - I've done it this way for years and I'm happy with it. I've not found the ads here intrusive or overbearing, and on the very rare occasion I've reported a specific ad for an issue, it's been dealt with immediately. I support asking people to whitelist, but the false positives (or whatever it should be called) when already whitelisted are getting more invasive. On that note:

freitasm:

[snip]

As for troubleshooting we did identify a problem early on with how ad blockers on Firefox work for whitelisted sites. This was fixed on Admiral and PageFair, but will check with other services. Here are some things to consider when helping us finding problems with false positive:

The Admiral page takeover one is regularly coming up - every hour I guess?? so perhaps that isn't resolved yet?

freitasm:

  • Is it really a false positive? I assume so - Admiral page takeover, +1, quick reply issues
  • Are you using another ad blocker on top of the adblocker? No
  • Are you using privacy blockers such as Ghostery? No
  • Do you have ad networks blocked in a hosts file? No
  • Are you using a VPN that may be injecting their own ads or blocking ads? No
  • Are you at work with ads blocked at their gateway? No
  • Does your router (or firewall) have a capability to block ads and scripts? Yes but not enabled
  • Have you scanned your computer lately to make sure there's no malware hijacking your browsing traffic? Yes. Same issue across multiple computers though.

Conversely, for troubleshooting purposes, I'm on my AdblockPlus'd iPhone using Safari at present (rationalising Adblock due to screen size, though happily unblocked in 17"lappy and 22" desktop) but DO get +1 and quick reply (and admiral reminder) so I'm somehow not being limited by your current setup @freitasm?

Just wondering what the ad refresh rate is, and if leaving a PC with a GZ webpage on overnight would help 'pay' toward my contribution?

I know some livestreamer gamers have this fundraising method?

Interesting thought!

There is no ad refresh as this is an artificial number (non-user initiated) and not acceptable for (decent non-spam) networks.
