When using the quote feature, either after the 'Quote' button or using the tag directly -

After posting the above, a newline is automatically added after the ending quote tag. I usually remember to remove a line before posting to compensate for this. I find it a very minor annoyance only.

Quoting the quote with one line added in the editor after the quote.

Because of the additional newline after the quote there is an extra line in the post above.

When I do a quote and look at the HTML (click the HTML button in the TinyMCE editor), I don't see anything AFTER the closing quote tag.

Well, there is no HTML for the quote outline box either, so I would not expect to see it.

It could be very annoying to fix, the extra line gives readability in the editor. Aha. - maybe it is an editor processing thing rather than a tag thing.

Ok! so being more accurate here - nearly all users add an additional newline after the last quote (before adding their own text) to increase readability during the editing process.

An unanticipated side effect of this (from the user point of view) is two new lines in the posted item after the quoted item.

(and then following that and compounding this any user quoting the newly posted item tends to do the same thing with their post, and so on.)
