Is it possible to add a button to the front page which upon pressing would allow me to filter out all comments made by Jama, Felix and Juha??

Seriously, the constant bickering backwards and forwards is detracting from what is normally a really enjoyable forum to browse through.

For God's sake, PM each other if you really feel the need to dump on each others occupations and places of employment

I felt obliged to respond to certain Telecom employees' trolling and flaming, but it is as you say bickering. Boring and pointless.... won't do it again.

On behalf of all of us here at Geekzone, our sanity thanks you.

Do you guys think it might be possible to be friends? Or maybe just try one whole day of being nice to each other? Maybe blog about each others good points - blank blog posts do not count.

/me heads back to reality now.

That is an interesting suggestion... Might give it a go later, but need some testing done.

Many online forums allow the ability for users to block posts created by other nominated users. This may possibly reduce the temptation for people to have a go at other, although my experience on the newsgroups is that people will often announce their intention to block another user as if they expect anyone else to actually care.

Having thought about it a bit more, I'd say it's better that the moderators become more active and don't allow ad hominem/namecalling/whatever.

We can't all agree with each other all the time, but at the very least, we can be civil to each other.

You have no idea how much name calling we remove from the forums. Someone in the industry saying that the media gets it wrong is nowhere near what I've seen in the broadband forums.

People call each other names simply because one decided to go with Xtra instead of IHUG. Or because someone says "LLU is not good" or "LLU is good".

In one episode someone attacked the moderators for removing names. He even invoked the Godwin's Law. Of course that user was immediately banned.

What we see between some members is a lot healthier than some trolls do...

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Oh, I didn't mean to say that the moderators don't remove the rubbish - I've seen that they do. What I meant is that it's better to go down that route just a little more rather than introducing "killfiles" and filters. While for instance I didn't like a certain members aggressive stance in the forums lately, that person has had plenty of sensible things to say before. I wouldn't want to lose access to that.

Anyway, flaming and trolling is part and parcel of the Intarweb unfortunately. Tends to flare up and die down regularly... thick skin helps.

I agree. I dont always agree with that you say, but I still like to hear your point of view on manythings. We need two sides to have a debate. We just need to be proative and keep it clean. After all there are more important things in life.

I personally believe that the moderators currently strike a good balance between maintaining civil behaviour, and ensuring that people are able to say what they feel. We'll all adults here, and we should be able to deal with a bit of negativity, but people often overstep the mark when they are behind the safety of a computer keyboard.
