Some time ago I changed an option in my profile which removed the RSS feed icon from my posts. Sometime in November 2011 maybe. All good, that is what I intended.

I noticed on a post I made today the RSS feed icon appears next to my username and the feed is active.

It appears a change has been made which affects existing option behavior.

Can you explain what occured here?

Thanks!

A reply I posted yesterday does not have the icon - so the change is very recent.

I sense a disturbance in the force...

Nothing changed. Which RSS icon are you talking about?

Remember we always show the RSS feed to the owner, regardless of it being public or private.

I do not see the RSS icon in this post at present next to my username - but I do see it in this post:

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=34&topicid=110832&page_no=1#702454.

Same browser, same session, both pages refreshed, etc.

I see the icon in both posts. Perhaps something when rendering the icon?

Had a look with Firefox. When logged in I see exactly the same behavior. A rendering issue seems unlikely.

Previous browser was Firefox. [Edit: That should have read 'Safari']

I'll have a closer look in a little while - suggestions welcome : )

Please note that I have just now changed the authentication mechanism in the feeds. It's done in the forum and profile pages, but not in the feeds themselves.

The new links will redirect to the front page for a while until this is changed across.

Nothing to do with this report but had to be done.

Perhaps because you are Über user?

The post where the icon appears has a signature. Adding a signature to this post.

[Edit: signature made no difference]

Only your Geekzone Friends see the RSS feed icon next to your name in the forums. You see other people's icons.

Ok. Good to know, but yeah - the question arises because I see the RSS icon only one recent post of mine but not any others. I assumed something had recently changed but that may not be the case at all.

It is not a client side issue. The html for my avatar area on one topic contains the RSS icon and feed and on the other topic it does not.

[Edit: accuracy - changed 'post' to 'topic']

One way or another the behavior is now normal. Just one additional note - previously I could see RSS icon/links for users not on my friend list. This is also resolved.

Btw - I noticed today when logging in with an incorrect username or password that there is no fail message. I have used the same saved cred for a while and this is the first time I have needed to log in for some time. I assume it has been that way for a while - but I thought it was unusual enough to remark on.

That's correct. Something is wrong, either username or password. We're not about to tell an attacker using a dictionary which one is which.

Yes, that is good policy.

Reporting "the username or password you entered is incorrect" also meets that requirement.

It is unusual to report nothing.

I will see later...

I have something to do tomorrow - optimise the email notification in threads with a few hundred replies.

That will keep you busy. But since you mentioned notification..

In gmail (apps) - The thread notification emails are in the same conversation until 61 replies and then a new conversation starts, and again each 61.

I'm guessing this occurs because something changes in the subject line or something like that around then but I have not looked at it yet so in theory it may not be a geekzone problem.

When I have not caught up with a thread for a while and the conversation splits in gmail - it is easy to start reading from the wrong place due to that problem.
