View count on forum topics... was this ever a feature on Geekzone? I can't recall.

My personal interest in this feature is that sometimes a question topic might be started that receives no replies. On forums which have the view count in place it reassures me to know that at least people are reading my question - that the "0 reply" is merely because nobody has a useful answer to contribute to my query, and not because I worded my topic title in a daft way that did not draw the attention of readers who might potentially have some knowledge to assist me.

And for me as a forum browser, when I see help requests with no/low view counts it sometimes prompts me to go read a topic to see why nobody is helping this poor bugger - even if it's a subject I am not that familiar with.

Hope that makes sense? Cheers for reading :o)

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

johnr: It was there

Hi John, nice to meet you and openly voice my appreciation for your outstanding contributions to Geekzone which I have followed (in lurk mode) over the years :o)

So I wasn't imagining that it used to exist. I wonder if the Big M removed it due to performance issues then? That would be understandable if so.

Let's see if he will pop in and comment.

Cheers!

I had this removed because on the grand universe it put more transactions in the database.. And it wasn't accurate, counting robots and other automated scripts, so not really a realistic number.

Ah OK, I expected there'd be a good reason for it. Cheers for the explanation.

Can the robots and scripts be filtered?

Even if it just counted the views from logged-in members (thus excluding robots/scripts/lurkers), i think it would still be pretty handy

Cheers for supporting the idea Nick, I hope he will revisit this topic and let us know if it is possible to exclude those view counts. Fingers crossed!
