As of last night. I told it "not spam", but check your spam folders if you're not getting notifications.

Yes, keep hitting "not spam" to teach gmail.

Damn people who subscribe to topics then push the "spam" button. There's an unsubscribe button there!

I had only 1 (of many) geekzone notifications end up in there over night, but that isn't unusual as every week or two one will end up in my GMail Spam folder. So for me I've not noticed a change.

What does usually bugger it up for me is when you tick and item and intend to hit the delete button but accedentially the the Spam button instead.

As of just before 2pm yesterday, all notifications from Geekzone were being classed as spam. After educating Google everything now seems okay.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

I've had no issues with mine. I had a rule set up to put a label on them, so maybe that helps keep them out of the spamz

On the topic of spam and notifications, is it possible to be e-mailed only once when there are new posts until you check the forum again? I enjoy being notified that there is a new reply, but if a new topic turns out to be one that is about to trend, my e-mail gets flooded.

You're only notified once per thread until you visit again. If you visit any thread that's reset and you can get more.

Shame it's not vBulletin, where you can subscribe to notification via their control panel. That'd be nice.

Go to your profile page and change the settings there.

At the bottom of ALL email notifications there's a disclaimer. Mine reads

"You will receive one notification every hour if you haven't visited this discussion and new replies are posted. You can change this option in your user profile at http://www.geekzone.co.nz/upd_user.asp"

So you could just read one of all those hundreds of emails to find where to change things ;)

Aha! Never knew this option existed and I never read far enough into the e-mail to see that message (clicking the link to the forum thread in the e-mail opens another tab and automatically gains focus - I never return to read the rest of the e-mail). Thanks!

Is the IP sending them on a RBL? That is usually the cause of the problem mxtoolbox.com

No, the IPs are not on a blacklist and reverse DNS resolves just fine.

The fact it's listed a "spam" is because Google uses signals coming from users who clicked the "SPAM" button to decide if something is spam or not.

Also people ask why we don't send the PMs via email and one of the reasons is that Google would look at some of the messages and automatically classify as spam - we try to keep the messages as simple and short as possible to avoid this kind of problems too.

Aha, thanks for the heads up, I was wondering why I stopped getting these. Have just marked a whole bunch as not spam.

Hopefully gmail "learns" they're not spam soon. Hmm... to teach it, I wonder if it's better to keep marking them as not spam, or just to add the geekzone address to contacts list?

freitasm, you should fix the SPF record for geekzone.co.nz. It should spesify which servers are allowed to send email with the from address geekzone.co.nz. At the moment it just says "ALL", which is not helpful and I think Google are amongst the places where it will not help and could possibly be problematic.

I have implemented DKIM on the server now so if you look at Geekzone emails on Google you should see this:

Services such as Yahoo! and Google use both SPF and DKIM for validation so this change should make it even easier for them to make sure those emails come from us.
