I just opened geekzone a few minutes ago and some survey popped up saying gz would give me a free gift to the value of $50 if I answered four questions.

None of the questions were personal, so I completed it.

Is this survey legit? I couldn't get the selected gift on the page to complete. It asked for a delivery addy to send it to and would proceed no further.

We are not running any survey. Did it say "Geekzone will give you" or "This site will give you"?

Do you have the URL to this "survey"?

Are you sure your machine is not infected with adware?

Ok, thanks. If mentioned geekzone in the title, so I thought it could have been genuine.

I'm not sure of the URL. there's a lot of junk in the history for today.

Yeah this laptop probably has adware and other crap; as our virus protection expired last week.

http://www.consumersurveygroup.org/survey/surveynz3.php?j=z-w&k=5-4&target=www.facebook.com&domain=www.facebook.com

I think that was the URL, but with geekzone.co.nz as the target.

It's a scam. It shows a bogus survey, and doesn't submit anything. It then shows a couple of "prizes" and whatever you choose it bounces your browser through two or three scripts before loading malware.

Basically your machine was infected and just got more crap.

Thanks. Maybe one of those nice Indian call centres will phone me soon and help me out with all the viruses spewing fourth onto the internet from this computer. :P
