Is there any way to set the "E-mail me when someone replies to this post" option to default to unchecked when I post in a thread, rather than having to manually uncheck it each time?

I forget from time to time, and as I have commented on quite a number of high-traffic threads my inbox gets kind of deluged in pointless notifications. If I want to check responses to a thread I go to the forum.

The alternative if to add GZ to the spam senders list in my email settings, which means I might actually miss an important notification. Plus, I'm reluctant to do something that will make my email provider think GZ is a spam domain.

Yes. The setting is in your profile.

Follow the "your profile" link beside your avatar.
Choose the "edit my profile" link.
The last section provides all the settings you want/need.

Edit: beaten to it.

I invest lots of time and effort into trying to make Geekzone less "spammy" as possible. DKIM software installed, SPF records, reverse DNS, no full text in emails, etc.

I would love if users would consider doing their side too, by changing the profile options as pointed out above.

Have a good new year with less emails.

Also you will note an unsubscribe link in those emails, so you can use that for when you start getting to many alerts for a particular topic: though if you then reply again, alerts make kick back in??
