You probably visited some Russian sites, I assume because of the Malaysia Airlines event today?

By any chance do you have AceStream installed?

I dunno, but it's what's causing the Russian ads. It seems to be injecting and/or overriding other advertisements with those big Russian ones, which means it's no longer installed on any of my PC's, because I sure as hell didn't give it permission to do that.

Ah.. There you go. Users change their settings installing some creepy programs that could well be qualified as malware/adware and then create a topic on "Geekzone sub-forum" implying it's a problem with us...

Sure.

its not a creepy program and i have been using it for a couple of years, which is why i never connected the dots, and it turned out that it did it to all sites that have ads, but Geekzone is the only site where i turn of my ad blocker so didnt notice.

I still think any software that hijacks advertising or injects advertising is malware. Either the source is malware or the site where you downloaded it from is contaminated.

Either way injecting advertising could be one of the symptoms. Who knows if it's not doing other stuff behind the scenes? Coiuld it be a keylogger as well, tracking your passwords, etc? Or a spam bot sending out emails? Or part of DDoS network?

Really, who knows?

Yes, good one and I mean thank you for that. Lucky it also revealed there's something lurking behind the scenes that would otherwise be undetected.
