FUG: Self-promotional and commercial posts are not allowed and will be removed. The only exception is in the Offers and Wanted forums, where users will be allowed to post non-commercial offers (personal only) after some participation in the forums.

Startups forum is also an exception.

This is not a free advertising platform. There are ways and ways of doing it. A guy who joins and his first post is "look I have my new hosting/ISP and I am trying to attract customers" will be cut off. Someone who participated around here for months sometimes years, have helped the community through direct support and other activities will have an easier time.

We had a case a couple of months ago where a guy joined up, subscribed to Geekzone and started posting links to products. I banned his account and cancelled the subscription. He was furious. His argument was that since he paid a sub he had the "right" to advertise.

You know where I told him to go.

You can surely understand that?

I can beat that.  Introducing, the Sendata 700 Series Acoustic Coupler/Modem featuring 300 BPS FULL DUPLEX

(I actually have one of these on my desk.  It is literally a museum piece...)

You'd just need one of those old post office dial phones to connect it to.

Remember those! Bloody hard to fit the cell phone into it, though.
