Having a page that showed all new posts since last visit would be very cool...

What about the *new* icon? in front of each forum, and each discussion with new posts?

Or even better - it showed all new threads since the last time you clicked on "new posts".  I've only come across one site that does this - and it even tells you which threads you've posted in by having a special icon next to the thread.

Good suggestion Laughing

As far as the "NEW" icon, the user has to get into the forums to check which ones are new as there is no brief description of which posts are new.

However, I get to know about the new posts by going to the home page of geekzone. You can see all new posts on the right hand side of that page. But still that doesnt solve which shows new posts *since my last visit*....

Another forum I frequent (sorry, the V8 section of Geekzone is too light for my liking Tongue out) has a page that I have as my bookmark, and its soooooo quick and easy to see all new posts in one page...

So what happens if you don't leave?  It's normal for me to have a number of tabs of my browser open all the time, one of which would be geekzone.  Presumably, the website doesn't think that I've left, so the "new" icon may not work properly.

If a user visits the website every 10 hours, they're fine since they can check the home page.  However, a number of times I've come across some thread that I've started a week or two earlier and hadn't read all the posts since I'd stayed away longer than the 10 hour limit.  There are so many individual forums here that I don't even bother trying to read them usually, however the forums here get about 40-60 messages a day which is not a huge number.

All very good suggestions. I the "page to rule them all" idea, and it's not hard to have it showing items since the last page read. This would be in addition to the *new* icon, which would still be there as indicator of new items since last login.
