I am not a paid member and I don't mind that there are ads but when checking Geekzone from work when you have something like this on your screen it could make you look a little dodgy! To say the least

Click on the blue arrow and see if you can opt out of Internet-based adverts.

Managed to opt out of opt out Interest-based adverts, but to be fair those sorts of ads in no way relate to my interests, sure I have browsed DX a couple of times for tech goodies.

I have now blocked dx.com from our AdSense rotation.

Interesting that Google is really strong on not having their AdSense ad units close to "suggested nudity" but it seems they have no problems running "almost explicit nudity" ads...

Coming from Holland I find all this pretty mild. You should see what we get on prime-time TV! The images don't offend me (and I don’t think they should offend any normal person) but the ads sure do. I deeply resent the implied suggestion that seeing something like this is going to make me or anyone else of normal intelligence want to buy anything. If I have to see an ad at all, I would much rather see one with some actual information about the item.

It doesn't bother me either. But each one is different and if that is something that can be frowned upon in some locations, better to opt out of interest-based ads.

Note that this opt-out is based on cookies so you have to do this on each browser you use and if you clear cookies then you have to opt out again.

Head here and opt out on every device from interest based ads: http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices/ - I also use Ghostery on Chrome (which won't stop me from getting tracked, but does help).

I DEMAND TO KNOW WHY EACH GEEKZONE PAGE IS NOT PERSONALLY VETTED BY A HUMAN BEING BEFORE BEING SENT OVER THE WIRE.
