Today, for the first time, a chat window has started popping up on Geekzone pages on Windows 10. How can I turn this off?

You can't just yet. I will add an ON/OFF switch to profiles, like the ones we have for other stuff.

It's not a permanent feature, currently just a test.

OK no worries. I can live  with it for awhile as long as I know what it is.

Yeah - I did a quick "is this malware" check...

Yeah, the comic sans font *screams* malware to me.

Ouch, seems pretty heavy. 600KB of partially unminified css and js including unminified bootstrap?  It also does not seem to like the corporate network I'm on (though I've had problems with websocket based chats on it in the past)

Ah. That was the first feedback I gave to the crew. It's a NZ thing, that's why I am testing.

Adblock can deal with it.

Are you sure? I see 13Kbytes.

In my opinion, the "target" for the X should be bigger: Twice now I've hit the border around it, which expands the panel instead of closing it.

Is the red username text on blue background problematic for anyone else? I'm slightly colourblind but it looks awful to me.

Well that's what I get when I "open chat in new window"

(And I guess that's only if you expand the chat which then sets the iframe url)

But really, all that for a chat widget?  Seems like the sort of thing you would want to hand craft, not use bootstrap, etc.
Compare with something like this from a random google: https://dev.openflex.net/candy/  (css = https://dev.openflex.net/candy/res/default.css, 2.7KB, js 22KB + 25KB and bundled nicely, etc) -  I guess it has less functionality though...

But still, I hope it's a work in progress and optimisations to come:

Well, just looking. Our IRC channel was pretty busy at times but hard to manage. It's not a definitive thing.

The blue thing hanging in the corner gets quite big when zooming up the browser on the phone.

Please get that disable option finished ;)

I have terminated the experiment. I base a lot of the decisions here on how usable something is for me and I couldn't "feel it" really.
