I think if either a mod or the author deletes a post, it still shows in the thread summary\header but is gone from the actual thread.

but why do they still show on the main forum page or on the sub forum page or in your new posts feed if they are gone?
surely if they are gone/hidden from everyone then we shouldn't know they are there at all except from maybe a thread update email
Good point. And the reason for that is because the code does not update last timestamp on the thread when a reply is removed. Something that can be done in two lines but I have never put in the to do list... Because I just finished ironing ten shirts and feel that I can just lazy in front of TV watching Bosch Season 2 ;)
