I've just got my self an Android tablet.

The links in Geekzone emails don't work in some email clients. The OEM email client is one of the affected clients as is Outlook for Android.

Another website I use that sends notification emails like Geekzone has the same problem. The links are displayed in a turquoise colour rather than the normal blue colour. Other email clients like Blue Mail and Cloud Magic work OK.

Is this an issue caused by how the websites send the links or a problem with the email client?

Are you using an Office 365 account? I personally use Office 365 with GMail (and the Google Exchange services) and have no problems. The default HTC Mail works as well. I know Outlook for Android doesn't work.

No, I don't have a 365 account.

I've been trying various email apps since the OEM one won't open Geekzone links. I want an app that will update my calendar from my Exchange account which is hosted by Live.com aka Outlook.com aka Hotmail.com

As a result I've been trying top figure out why some email links work and others don't.

It'a a pity the OEM email client doesn't support the Geekzone links.

Install Google Exchange Services and try the GMail app from the Play Store.

I have an aversion to using Gmail and am doing my best to avoid going down that path. I find Google is too intrusive for my liking.

What I'm trying to figure out is why only some email links don't work. What is different about the links from Geekzone?

I don't know. We send emails in plain text. Nothing fancy. Obviously devs have a hard time with things that are simple and try to make everything hard...

Gmail in this case is not the Gmail service, but the Gmail app.

I'll give it a go. Is the Google Exchange Services download needed as well?

If you can access your account as an Exchange account then yes you install Google Exchange Services, reboot and Gmail should show the following:

TH GMail app already has those options so I guess Google Exchange Service is already on the device.

I'll try it later today.

I've setup the email accounts on the Gmail app. The links in the Geekzone emails don't show as links at all, just plain text with no underline or colour.

Back to the drawing board.

At least the calendar entries are synced!!!!!

It must be something on your server then.

The account which the Geekzone emails come to is an Xtra account.  There's no other server than the Yahoo/Xtra server.

Btw do the links work correctly in your Xtra webmail? Other than that maybe an android app association is undefined or defined badly? Maybe assign and reassign anyway.

The links work OK in some email clients on the tablet, Bliue Mail and Cloud Magic. Unforunatlely I cannot get these apps to sync my calendar on my other email acccount.

The Geekzone links work OK on my phone and my laptop.

They don't work on the Gmail app nor the OEM email client nor in Outlook for Android.

I've done some more testing.

The problem seems to be related to whether or not the email is sent formatted as HTML or Plain Text.

If I send links in a Plain Text email the links don't show as links in Gmail or the OEM client whereas if I send the exact same links in a HTML email they work.

Some email clients aren't fussy about the format for example Blue Mail and the links work in both Plain Text and HTML.  The trouble is unlike Gmail and the OEM client Blue Mail doesn't play nice with the calendar.

I'm surprised there hasn't been discussion (well at least not far as I can see) on this in the Android forums.  I'll post there to see if there's anyone who can help.
