Nah... Having wrong spelling won't throw you back to homepage. I've seen this behaviour before but not on search. 

Strangely if you search  "peter reader" you get home page.

Seems that anything with a space goes to the home page.

And more.

The reason why it goes to the homepage is because anything that's not letters and numbers (acceptable user name) is instantly rejected.
