I've just read the thread on ads and how they are potentially costing GZ users. There are both positive and negative comments regarding the subscription which, amongst other things, removes them.

I just wanted to say, I'm more than happy to pay the $25 (I have for several years now) and in fact I'd be happy to pay double.

I value the time and effort people have put in to helping me when I've needed it. I know the money doesn't go to them directly, but that's not the point. GZ is an incredible resource for which I am very grateful for.

If you can browse the site on a device worth hundreds of dollars, thousands in some cases, what's $25 a year ?

Or compare $25 to the price of one piece of tech support received at standard rates with minimum charges.

The subscription is nothing cheap as chips! The main issue is a lot of people think everything should be free on the interwebs

Agreed.

I've been subbing for years......since the ad issue first arose....plus it's a great site and I was (am!) keen to support it.

Ads on GZ?

I'd forgotten.

$25 well spent, me thinks.

Personally, I don't have a problem with the ads. What I do have a problem with is the site not picking up that my adblocker is not blocking the ads :-)

I just had a thought for geekzone.

I know from past that there have been companies who have thrown in prizes so if geekzone could tie up with a few companies and ask them for some sort of a discount of their product and services which is essentially 0$ customer accusition cost for the company itself and for the buyer it gives them some tangible value ( say for eg 4 x $10 vouchers ) it would often make a no -brainer of a deal and it would increase a lot more subscribers.

my 2 c :) @freitasm ( not sure if that works ) {MOD EDIT: SP : It does now I have corrected the spelling.}

I like the ads and find them usually relevant and often click on them. I also  regularly click on them to buy things  on Amazon . So I suspect that more money is made from me from the adverts, than if I subscribed anyway.

I'm only reminded that Geekzone has ads when forum posts talk about them. $25 is reasonable.

Lifetime memberships would be good. What would the cost of a lifetime membership be?

I read that topic and have never had adverts "sneak up" from the bottom. However it did get me thinking I've used GZ a lot over the last 2 years and I had never subscribed so that has now changed.

$25 is a small amount to pay and I'm sorry I haven't done it sooner.

When the mass logout happened I saw some ads. One giant thing I accidentally had appear was a blocked flash, obviously the close thing was in the flash so there was no way to close it with flash set as click to play without playing the flash, which I wasnt going to do just to close it. Quickly got logged in to avoid that crap.
