I joined Geekzone because I've spent nearly a decade (so far) in the Education sector providing ICT solutions, and I have ideas and real-world experiences to contribute.

Unfortunately, my experiences on these forums of late have not been pleasant. There are individuals who continue to TROLL on certain topics and take cheap shots at other GZ users.

It would seem that the Forum Mods aren't interested in dealing with these users.

So long folks...

Every forum will have trolls. Either here, or usenet, or Wikipedia. Seeing you have been on Geekzone for such a long time it's a surprise you haven't realised that those trolls are ratted out with time.

Perhaps I should rephrase, a particular "individual" not "individuals" that is trolling.  A user that I PM'd you about (twice).

This user who would probably feel more at home if he contributed to the GamePlanet or GameSpot forums.  Sure they have a right to participate on GZ too, but not in a way that is disrespectful to other GZ users and their opinions.

For the most part the majority users on Geekzone provide intelligent conversation and relevent discussion.

Maybe I'll rejoin the community at a later date. Undecided  All the best.

And by the way I have been following this discussion. Two different users came across as needing some warning. One was banned, and came back with a public apology.

So what's not good enough for you? If you don't like that one user prefers PS3 over Xbox 360 - well just move away from the discussion. It is not going to change the world you and I live in!

See you again at a later date then.

Sad to see you go, but I tend to agree with freitasm.

Why let those users force you out? Just take it in your stride...

No, no, no no, no.  That is not it at all, Mauricio.

It was the same user on two completely different threads under the Gaming topic.  His stance always comes across as "I'm right and I know it all".

Maybe I'm not quite as think-skinned as I should be, but this user has been rattling the cages of other GZ users as well.  That was the reason for my PMs.

Disappointed that you cannot see this...

I hear what you're saying ictgeeknz, but I think the saying "Don't feed the trolls" applies... Don't get mad, ignore them. I think justice prevails on this site.

ictgeeknz. You know I will say the same as what other have said. Ignore the idiots and the trolls, they aren't worth the effort to reeducate their limited mindspace.

Moderators have a lot to tolerate and I've been on the net and forums long enough to just ignore them and their stupidity comments and file them under "unhelpful, worthless, and junk". Just move aside and enjoy the community in other areas.

ictgeeknz, so you leave that 'troll' to win and you lose? You want to leave us because of him?  Any forum will have trolls and problem makers. From my experience, I can say Geekzone has less trolls and problem makers. Just ignore those people you think are trolling and wasting their time. Moderators can warn or if they really violate the rules, they may ban them. It has happened with me once and Mauricio did ban that user for misbehaving with me in the forums. I dont know what is in your case, but seeing Mauricio's reply,

>>Two different users came across as needing some warning. One was banned, and came back with a public apology.

I think its been dealt properly Laughing

I for one would like to see you stay here and be a part of the Geek Gang Cool

Chaks

I agree with the others.
I am a relatively new forum member and all the expert opinions and helpful advice far outweighs the negatives.

Don't feed into trolls actions and they will go away.

Here's my 2c.

We make a huge effort to keep these forums clean and worthwhile.

Site admin and team are always one, two, or more of the following (all at the same time - don't we do well): in the pocket of one company or another, coming down to hard, coming down too soft, being too loose with the rules or being too retentive about the rules.

Its really destructive to the site and the community to get really harsh and start excluding people for lesser reasons, and its just as bad if we let the reins be too loose.

Its a huge juggling act, and we try and keep it balanced in such a way that Geekzone continues to grow and be valuable to the community at large.

I honestly am unaware of the particular situation at hand (anyone got a link to the thread(s) in question?).

Our not-so-good members often get chances, with outcomes either way based on:
  • Severity
  • Intent
  • Impact on site quality
  • Personal attacks
  • Godwins law
  • General idiocy
  • Prior contributions
  • Prior intelligence
  • Prior stupidity
  • Personal whims of moderators (Yes, we are imperfect LOL)
  • The butterfly effects on the rest of the site, and Soho Solutions in general. This is, after all, a business.
Often we don't get it right in a particular users eyes.
Often we don't get it right in lots of users eyes.
Often we don't get it right in our own teams eyes.
We feel we do get it right most of the time though.

Would be nice to see you stick around. We value our good members, which is where we see you, and the vast majority of others who are active in the forums.

This is going to be the shortest "goodbye" ever.

Kinda hard to stay away when you're in the habit using this site as a resource - reading various threads for at least a couple of hours each day.

Contrary to what my first post says, "cheers and beers" for the Mods. Perhaps you need a few more on patrol because of the site growth?  Just a suggestion.

As an aside - would (still) dearly like to see a Small Business/Enterprise discussion area. There is no ideal place to post questions relating to that sector of the industry.

Thanks all.

P.S. you lock this down now.
P.P.S. a vote for a Web Solutions discussion area too.

You say yes, I say no
You say stop and I say go, go, go
Oh, no
You say goodbye and I say hello
Hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello
Hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello
