I have started getting occasional errors on Geekzone when trying to submit a post in Opera. The error is an Opera one that says Geekzone is off-line and cannot be reached. Repeated reloads make no difference. If I try a different browser, such as Vivaldi, it works normally so this must be specific to Opera. When it just occurred again, the following message popped up:

Failed to load content css: https://cdn.tinymce.com/4/skins/lightgray/content.min.css

Not sure what this is saying but it appears to be some kind of compatibility issue between GZ and Opera. I just updated to the latest 'stable' version of Opera the other day, 44.0.2510.1449.

Do you have any "data saving" option in Opera enabled?

Not that I am aware of. I am not an expert with modern Opera. I have been experimenting with different browsers to find one that suits me so most of the settings are probably on their defaults.

I'm at the other end of the scale. I change a lot of settings and customise the browser. No errors posting comments

* Default Opera ad blocker enabled

* Do not allow 3rd party cookies

* No Opera SurfEasy VPN service

* Allow recently closed sites to finish sending and receiving data = Enabled

* No prediction services

* Do data savings settings available on desktop PC

No really related and not to hijack the thread but check out Vivaldi, made by the guys who left Opera.

Been using it as default browser, found it very stable. If you miss the old opera with up to date browser engine, you might be pleasantly surprised.

If you read my original post you would see I also use Vivaldi, along with others. They all have different things I don't like and I'm still searching for the best one.

The Opera issue is not something I am making up. After I upgraded to the latest version, I started seeing this problem. It doesn't happen all the time, just occasionally. Today it happened when I was trying to post something to the Annoyances thread. Suddenly I get the opera message that it cannot reach the site and I should check my Internet connection. Then the other things mentioned in my first post. This only happens with Opera and it has only happened with Geekzone. I don't know where the issue is. If I change browsers, everything works fine.

Lovely for you and for all the others who keep reporting the same thing. It doesn't help me much, though.

it is actually useful info for MF, if others are OK then that can indicate the issue is not at GZ end but at the users end. One question are you using any themes of skins that you have installed off the web or are you using stock Opera?

No, as I reported earlier to MF I am using the stock version with no add-ons and mostly default settings. I am just comparing different browsers at the moment so have done no customisations beyond a few extensions. I never encountered this issue with earlier versions, only the last update. I'm sure it is something at my end, just don't know what.

Try deleting/disabling the the extensions and see if the issues stop. Then bring them back one at a time.

I have stopped using Opera because of these issues. There were also other niggling things I didn't like about it, such as the lack of choice in default search engines and the inability to change default tab behaviour. The extensions I had installed were the same ones that never gave me any issues with earlier versions, specifically HTML5 autoplay, javascript switch, uBlock Origin, and an element remover. These also work fine with Vivaldi.

If I was desperate to use Opera I might fiddle with these things but it just isn't worth the hassle to me. I reported the issue because I thought it might have to do with a GZ bug of some kind, but other than that it doesn't really interest me much. If they ever make it better I might come back for another look.
