Hmm. I suggested to a friend that she join up on Geekzone because there were a lot of topics that she might find interesting.

She's just told me that the number of scam\spam\phishing emails in her incoming mailbox have suddenly jumped from almost zilch to 10-12 per day.

I would say coincidence as I have exactly 1 spam in my gmail spam folder in however long till it auto empties and none in the inbox that I dont expect. This address is only used for geekzone, trademe secondary account, facebook secondary account and a few twitter accounts, and second ebay and wish accounts too.

Have you seen these spam / scam emails and checked they are not just notifications from Geekzone?

Correlation is not necessarily causation so it may be concidence.

Here is my Quic referral https://account.quic.nz/refer/39513 if you are keen to change ISP and to get free setup (save $29). I will get a $50 credit if you use this.  Thank you very much if you use my link but I'm sure there are quite a few others who could share the same on here, no hard feelings if you use a different link.

As all comments above. Make sure your friend isn't receiving reply notifications from a high traffic thread and calling it "spam" (a lot of people call "spam" any email they don't recognise or don't think is personal). If this is the case, educate your friend about the unsubscribe link in every notification and about the personal option to only receive one notification per hour (or only one notification until you visit the thread again).

If it's not a Geekzone notification, then nope, not from us.

Thanks, Mauricio. Obviously, you don't sell address lists.

Seems there's a lot of trafficking of this commodity these days.

It's comforting to know that you're not tempted by the extra income.

In other words, does her Spam folder have as many blinking lights like this one?
