I notice geekzone now has quite an intrusive anti-adblock warning. Which I was quite surprised at considering Geekzone hasn't really been that intrusive ever before.

But I have it white listed already....

Hi folks

This is, like the previous notification and others, an experiment. I have tested this with Chrome, Firefox and Edge, using different ad blockers. The notification should appear once only per session (i.e. until you close and reopen the browser).

If that's not the case, please let me know what browser you are using and if you have other add-ons such privacy protection (Ghostery, etc).

Hey Mauricio,
Thanks for your prompt reply

Google Chrome,

AdBlock Plus, disabled for Geekzone

Definitely coming up more than just once per session. Not on every page browse, maybe about half?

Thanks.  No other add-ons? Cookies, etc not being blocked?

Hmm okay totally my bad... Sorry

Just opened my extensions to check, a VPN extension I installed to watch something on Nat Geo Canada apparently has a AdBlocker as part of it... I had no idea until just reading it just now, assumed was just the VPN. Have disabled it.

But the pop up was still definitely coming up very regularly

Agree very regular popups, I use umatrix to block all sorts of rubbish websites try and push (not saying geekzone does this)

I assume i need to allow quantserve to set cookies to minimise the popups?

It happened regularly (opening new pages) when Ghostery was active. Disabling ghostery resolved the issue. (FF 61)

I have been a subscriber in the past, and may again in the future. I'll put myself out there for public shaming by saying I have adblocking enabled for Geekzone. I'll also say when that full page thing has been getting up in my grill about disabling it for the last few days, most of the time I've responded by closing Geekzone and going elsewhere. I'm sure there are analytics available to see how many other people responded the same way.

Geekzone is a tricky one compared to other sites, as the users are both the consumers, and content creators. If someone gets the pip and closes the NZ Herald page, it's no consequence to the Herald, as they weren't going to get anything from that visitor anyway.

My point is, making the anti-adblock more intrusive than the adverts might not get the desired outcome.

Firefox 61.01. Adblocker - exception for geekzone.  Cookies blocked - exception for geekzone.

Not seeing the pop-up others are seeing.

I think it's very specific to Ghostery and Privacy settings. I've tested with multiple browsers and ad blockers and it only shows once per session (as in browser open, show once, use without seeing it again. close browser, shows once again, etc).

I am using Chrome version  67.0.3396.99 (Official Build) (64-bit). The pop up is appearing on opening, login, new tab, refresh tab. I have white listed in uBlock

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
