I am permanently logged into Geekzone but when I turned on my computer this morning I got hit with a Captcha  for the first time in ages. Has something changed here? I don't use 2FA but I recently installed a VPN on my desktop.

If you are in New Zealand or Australia you are pretty much whitelisted. Outside these countries it will depend on browser and IP reputation. Obviously a VPN is used for good and evil and in this case the exit IP address has probably a bad reputation.

Not much reason to use a VPN from a home network unless on some specific cases...

Yes I have been experimenting with some overseas FTA streams. The VPN works well with the browser but installing it on the desktop has been causing problems. This is temporary while I play. The VPN isn't shady. Thanks for the explanation.

The VPN may not be shady but do you know what the other hundreds or thousands of people using the same IP address as you are using it for? Bots, spam, scams... As I said, VPNs are used for good and evil.
