Is there any interest in adding a gardening forum, under the DIY category? I know people have asked gardening questions in the past in other forums, it might be useful to collect them all in one place. Or, more generally, expand the DIY with a few new categories so everything doesn't get lumped into Home Workshop DIY.

... but the underwhelming response is telling.

I would vote for ‘thanks but no’. I don’t expect to have to go trawling through gardening forums for geek discussions or answers.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

It would be good. Could be used to weed out garden problems.

Wouldn't be a bad thing to have a gardening forum, I would use it.

Gardening is getting a little too far outside the scope of what I visit Geekzone for. Yes, I'm sure there are geeks who garden. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, but I don't want a cooking forum here.

I can't see why the DIY sub-forum can't be used. Are you doing it yourself, or paying a gardener?

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Hardly a "geekzone" thing... Aren't there already dedicated gardening forums?

"Home Workshop DIY" is already spread wide for some of the topics that end up there so I don't see gardening as any different.

My wife is a keen gardener and she has her own "workshop" zone in the garage. So, again, I don't see gardening as any different than other "workshop" zones in the garage that are used for maintenance, projects and accessories: bicycle, house, car and lawnmower.

There's plenty of ways the tech and gardening world interact, I vote yes

As long as it's not a blight on the board.

This is a more geeky approach to gardening. A lot of gardening forums seem to be dominated by only-natural-or-organic-is-worth-anything people. Not in an oppressive manner, but more that a lot of the advice will be "use organic this" or "try natural that" rather than "use this because it'll work". So you end up having to trawl through a lot of posts about their grandmother's magic home recipe for dealing with slugs rather than just "hit them with metaldehyde and you're done".

Its a geek thing when you decide to pimp out the irrigation and add audio and lighting to your vege patch.

Could this potential forum also be able act as a "whats this tree/shrub"?

I do gardening stuff, I'd be interested. DIY forum is fine.

We get about three gardening threads a year. IMHO once we get a few threads a day then it might deserve it's own forum.

It’s definitely worth having a garden forum, we’re in the process of installing smart hue outdoor lights and also plan on installing a few fibaro modules to control the irrigation system.

Forgive the length of the lawn it was only seeded 3 weeks ago. It’s due for its first mow next week. Also the wires for the lighting, just got them roughly laid out where we want them today need to get some conduit and bury them under the edging tomorrow.

I vote no.

As mentioned above, there are hardly any gardening threads. And even irrigation questions are to do with things like solenoid valves and controllers. Not things like watering schedules.

Surely other gardening forums would be fine for questions like: "best plants for an area with no sun" or "flowering plants that are frost proof".

While questions like - best weedkiller for xyz plant. Are all good here. As they are partly related to chemistry.
