I wish this would quit happening to me but it does. Now I have an issue with quotation marks. If I type a quote (' or ") followed by a space, I get a blank. If I type it followed by a letter, it displays correctly. This creates a problem when enclosing something in quotes, because the close quote when followed by a space doesn't display so I get something like "this instead of "this". The only way I can get the close quote to appear is to type it twice and then backspace.

This is new. I didn't have this issue before. I do have my keyboard set to international so I can type accented characters, but it has always been that way and nothing has changed at my end as far as I can tell. I just checked on a different browser and the same thing happens. I also checked in Word and the quotes work correctly. Because of my previous brain fade I am hesitant to pin this on Geekzone but I can't think what else would be causing it. Can someone check to see if this really is a problem?

It would be usefull if you could say what browsers (include build versions) you have tried this with and is it occurrig on all browsers ie. Chromium based, Firefox, Edge etc?   Have you tried a different keyboard again to see if the issue persists?

It maybe usefull for the Forum staff if you could post a screen grab of the issue.

I'm having no problems so it is likely to be the international keyboard setting:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-word/quotation-marks-do-not-appear-correctly-when-typed/8d6f7126-aa9b-4fdb-a1a5-f222a80d9249?auth=1

With this layout, the " key becomes a "setup key" or "dead key" for typing vowels with an umlaut or diaeresis.

What I don't get is why this is only happening with Geekzone, and why it didn't happen before. I haven't changed anything at my end. The problem doesn't occur with other sites or other software (like Word). It didn't used to happen with Geekzone. Why should this be.

@MikeB4: I tried this on Dragon, Chrome, Opera, Vivaldi. It's not the keyboard because then it would happen all the time, but it only happens with GZ. How am I supposed to do a screen grab? It is just any line of text with a blank instead of a quotation mark, as per the examples I typed.

@Hammerer: The dead key function is working as it should, expect when I type a space. The space works but no quotation mark. If I type a character instead of a space, then it works as it should. This is specific to the space character, but not to my keyboard. As an example, I am typing this sentence on a different keyboard. "Quote  no end quote. The keyboard makes no difference.

At first people didn't see an issue with my previous complaint about the page refresh, then they did and @Freitasm found something in a script. I am wondering if this could be something similar.

Nope. Check keyboard settings as mentioned.

Those browsers are all based on Chromium. Try Firefox or Edge and see if it persists. Also try your  keyboard in default settings and see what happens

This is on a different computer. "Quote  unquote. International keyboard not working on Geekzone. Dead key works as it should with every character except space. What should happen is this: Type quote mark, type space, quote mark appears. This is how the dead key function is supposed to work. But when I type the space following a quote I just get a blank. This only happens on Geekzone. I just tried on another site and it worked as it is supposed to. I don't know what else to say. I know I made a dumb mistake with the giveaway but I have checked and rechecked this and I keep coming back to Geekzone. It is not a biggie and if I am the only one in the world getting this so be it.

What OS are you running, and which keyboard layout? I may be able to test it at my end.

This is on Firefox. "Quote  unquote. Same problem, only happens with Geekzone. It may not be a biggie, but I'm not making it up. I was right about the delay and I am right about this, at least in that something has changed that is causing this behaviour.

I use an international keyboard for foreign language compatibility. I am used to the way it works. I haven't had this problem before and I don't have it with any other site or software. Whatever it is, it has to be somehow related to Geekzone. Maybe it is at my end, but I don't know what it could be. However, this is my final comment on the subject. I will just live with it.

Thanks. I appreciate your willingness to help. I just tested this on two different computers, one running Windows 7, the other running Windows 10. Both behave exactly the same. The keyboard layout is US International. This has the dead key setup that lets you type accented characters. The way it works is if you type an accent like a quote mark and then follow it with a letter character that can be accented, you get the accented character. Otherwise you get the quote mark. So if you type: 'e you get é. If you type a character that cannot be accented, you get the quote mark followed by the character, for example: 'k. If you just want to close a quote, you type the quote mark followed by a space. Example: 'quote'. Since words are almost always separated by spaces this works well. Except that is not working on Geekzone for some reason. If you could check this I would be very grateful. I don't want people thinking I am making stuff up but if this is another dumb mistake I want to know it. If I am just going senile I guess I will have to take appropriate measures.

I may have missed ( Pain relief making my eyes fuzzy) it but did you try with the KB setting as standard US?

I don't think you are going senile or making things up. This small issue would drive to distraction though but I am a little OCD and I would have to get to teh end of it.

Perhaps something changed on TinyMCE but wouldn't be anything I'd have done.

What you describe is how it works to get some special characters when Windows keyboard is set to a specific language. American English does not do this.

I can confirm that the same issue occurs for me with Edge on Win 10, when using the US International keyboard. The demo editor on TinyMCE's site is also affected, so it's not a Geekzone issue.

Edit: The older TinyMCE on my personal site (3.5.10) is not affected.

If I created confusion by not being clear enough I apologise. Yes, the standard English keyboard layout does work correctly, but the international (dead key) one does not, though it did until recently. I prefer to use the international keyboard because I am used to it and can use it with different languages. Otherwise I have to keep switching the keyboard, which is a pain when I just want to type a single French or German word. If something has changed on TinyMCE then I will just have to live with it. I suppose not many people here use international keyboards.

Thank you for that. At least it explains what is going on and I'm not quite ready for the old folks home yet. That is a relief.

I don't suppose there is any way to fix this?
