It's inserted by Reader alright. Use something like Adblock Plus on Firefox.

The feed ads were always there. Due to the transition from the Feedburner platform to Google these were "invisible" for a while.

They don't show up on my RSS reader... and it uses IE on my computer (which doesn't have any ad blocking utilities)

They are not seen in 100% of the feeds all the time. Google decides what and when. Good luck!

What google service are you using to distribute your feeds?  I like the thought of feedburner as it's gives a nice report on usage...

It is still FeedBurner (a Google company) but they are slowly moving users from their old platform (www.feedburner.com) to the new one (feedburner.google.com).

There's a bigger integration with Google accounts now, plus integration with AdSense and AdManager.

GoodSync. Easily back up and sync your files with GoodSync. Simple and secure file backup and synchronisation software will ensure that your files are never lost (affiliate link).
