As of the past two weeks or so, it's been necessary to have google.com enabled in NoScript in order to use Geekzone. Without this, you can't log on or post. Since Google are slightly worse than the NSA in terms of data collection, I always keep them blocked by default. Would it be possible to fix this so unblocking Google isn't necessary to use the site?

We are measuring robot/automated activities around the site with reCAPTCHA. About 12% - 15% of the traffic seems to be non-human. Once we have a few weeks of data I will decide how we will manage this - either by blocking suspicious activity or requiring a second authentication (email, 2FA TOTP code) when a suspicious login/post happens.

Sorry, this will continue for a little while before I decide on this.

Any chance of maybe whitelisting NZ IP blocks or something? Assuming the problem traffic is coming from non-NZ sources that is...

Hmm, and it goes beyond just logging in, for example I can't post this unless I have Google enabled.

I have not removed the reCAPTCHA code but replaced google.com with recaptcha.net - this should prevent proxy errors if you have problems with the Google domain.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Hmm, that's actually made it worse, now I need to allow google, com, recaptcha.net, and licdn.com just to post.

Ugh, and something more beyond that, I can't post this message at the moment, will try enabling more domains.

Aside from everything @stevebiddle writes, I've never seen a single Spam post on Geekzone.

Is all this really necessary?

You don't see because these are removed. There a few every week. Also some registrations are blocked because we use a third-party validation service. Then there's the odd spammers who join but don't post in forums but send PM spam to a lot of people. We already block some countries making them Read Only because of that.

I keep looking at ways of automating this process, adding more tools to avoid having these things happening.

And that is one that lived only a few minutes. People have no idea of the traffic we get, so second guessing seems easy...
