The new Parliament grounds slide is now open to families - and since me and @sbiddle were attending the @chorusnz event today, of course he had to try it:

Thanks @Bartender for converting my video to GIF.

Is that all? I have had sometimes where people have embedded a 100+ meg animated one which tends to murder the mobile data cap

Geekzone blocks files larger than 2mb. So yeah. I blame @freitasm

Nah, doesn’t get hot enough in Wellington.

I think sliding down a burning hot stainless steel slide is a kiwi kids rite of passage. Do we need to organise for under-slide fire to make it sufficiently hot enough?

Couple more years of global warming will sort that out

The question I'd like the answer to is why do we need a playground in parliament grounds? It seems to be a rather odd thing to have there.

Actually a circus might be a better fit with what goes on in one of the buildings there?

Those grounds are used everyday by people who walk to the large space at lunch time, meet with family members who work around and just sit to enjoy the sun, and have some social exchanges with friends. A playground is a nice addition to those stopping by.

There aren't many (if at all) playgrounds in central Wellington.

Surely you understand that?

Because the debating chamber has become to small.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I question the value of taxpayers paying $500,000 for something like this and then for it to be promoted as being something that shows the current government is focusing on child welfare, especially when child welfare groups are saying otherwise. That $500,000 could have been better spent on child welfare.

I agree good playgrounds are a very worthwhile amenity. However if Wellington is devoid of good playgrounds, it's not the responsibility of central government to rectify that problem

If child welfare was a genuine concern rather than partisan politics then I would love to see the naysayers advocate for tax increases, raising the age for super (as it is the single largest line item in the budget) and cracking down on tax avoidance/evasion.

And with that.... This thread probably needs to be in Politics. :)
