I noticed that you have both domains for geekzone , .co.nz and .nz.  It seems they both point to .co.nz. I also observed that if you put geekzone into a search engine it lists .co.nz site only.

Can one gain any insight into whether it is better to have a .co.nz over a .nz (accepting that one should really just buy both if available)

Ok Thanks for the response

More and more when checking domains to use where there is a choice of .co.nz and nz I choose the nz. My thinking is when adding social media @ballsnz looks better and shorter than @ballsconz.

You can only have one domain, otherwise multiple domains will be seem as copies of the original, reducing SEO value. Also advertising is run on a specific domain - leaving multiple domains showing ads would lead to a lot of page views with no revenue, unless listed with the ad service.

Because of this, you should have a single domain. If the name is important, sure register other domains and redirect everything, like I do.

And yes, www and non-www are different domains too.

I think I swing towards the other end of the spectrum. I think asdf.co.nz feels more established, and more respectable than asdf.nz. Form my work site, I also own both versions, and use redirection towards the co.nz version.

It seems to be if you are serious you should get both...
