Since the quote limit was imposed I - like I am sure many others - have occasionally forgotten and been presented with the "Your post contains too many quotes" when you click post.

Originally, if I hit back in Safari, I returned to my editing, with the message I had labouriously entered plus all the quotes, could then do housekeeping on the quotes and post.

Recently, hitting back returns me to that point - MINUS everything I just spent 5 minutes writing...! All my entered text is simply erased.

Any idea why it has changed behaviour - and how do we change it back if anyone knows?

This is something your browser is doing. We haven't changed anything that could do it.

Test, typed this after adding illegal quotes.

Back spaced, back to my post, removed illegal quote and re posted

I use Safari, works fine.

Did you enable Development mode & tweak a few things?

  • Maybe you disabled caching of secure sites
  • Maybe you disabled local storage of the website
  • Are you using the same type of device i.e. Mac Book vs. Mac Air vs. iPad vs. what ever they call themselves today

OK so.

I mentioned somewhere here a while ago that when I went 'back' my browser was automatically reloading the page rather than simply going back to, for want of a better expression, a photograph of the page.

I noticed today on GZ that when I had the quote issue, I went back and momentarily, all my text was there - then the browser reloaded everything and wiped the content I had written.

I have never managed to get to the bottom of the reloading issue but it's annoying.

Perhaps you have the browser set to not cache secure pages?

Really the page should be re presenting the form with the content in it, rather than just an error and expecting the back button to function like that. I also have had it lose stuff when the rich editor loads over the top of the plaintext one.

Yes, could change the page to load the same. One day I will have time to do it.

Maybe some app or virus(!) has remapped your back button. You can always remap it yourself to make it function the way you want.
