I have always worked on trying to make Geekzone faster and have done more changes in the last couple of weeks to achieve this (without people noticing, and not talking about the change people are complaining, which by itself makes almost no difference in page load times).

Today I have made another change. It is a big step as it is a departure from our traditional mindset in collecting website analytics by removing the Google Analytics code from our pages.

Please let me know if you notice anything in terms of speed - page load time mainly. Also, your comments on changing how we process analytics data is welcome.

Page load time is fast on my end. Clicking on a thread on the main page, takes 2 seconds at most to load (click & simultaneous say; one thousand, two thousand).
Desktop, no adblockers for GZ, Fibre 100/20.

To be fair though, never took much notice before.

Mine open in around one cigarette!

All in all, very responsive. Not that I had issues before, though!

GA code shouldn't slow down the page load time - not noticeable anyway.

Were you using GTM and the latest libraries?

If you remove GA, will you still be able to provide users/session data to potential advertisers?

Feel free to PM me if you need help.

It seems fast and responsive, but then I can't say I've ever had too many worries about GZ performance

Page load times never worried me. I’m not going to notice a few milliseconds. Always seemed quick to me.

No, GA wasn't slowing down pages in a significant way but I am a firm believer that less is always better.

Yes, always using the latest libraries. And yes, I have how to see users/session data outside GA.

Does seem faster, on Spark

I also just noticed it appears the site is being served out of Sydney now as opposed to Hong Kong or Tokyo (can't remember which).

uBlock rips out GA for me anyway so I suspect I won't notice a difference, but nice work on removing it, more accurate ways of getting that data these days.

There is another script I will remove soon. Just testing one at a time to confirm numbers.

You guys do know that removing a script on the site doesn’t change the underlaying network right? Traceroutes won’t change on such change.

Yep, and I was merely pointing out for Spark that it no longer appears to be served out of Tokyo. So for me that is more noticeable than the removal of a script.
