Hi,

Can I please ask for entering a thread/topic to *always* open in a new window? At the moment, if you click on the "show new posts" flag icon it opens the thread in a new window, but if I click on a new topic it opens in the *same* window as the index. Inevitably, I read the new topic and then automatically close the window. And then have to "Reopen closed tab" and left-arrow to get back to the "New forum posts" index.

I think the point the OP was making is that the behaviour is inconsistent depending on where you click for a particular topic.

honestly that will change per place you visit.

I'd just get into the habit of middle clicking. Once your used to it it's second nature and you don't have to trust a site to not break your workflow

Are you talking about homepage or the forums listing pages?

I really don’t understand this request.

For those who don’t like a new window open, it would be a nuisance as you would just end up with a bunch of windows open unnecessarily. A change like this would have an impact on everyone who uses this site yet they haven’t proposed a vote, they’ve just said “do it my way”.

Edit: Sorry, they did say please. “Do it my way, please”.

It's a request, not a command.

Yes, in the forums.

Oh, and I meant open a new tab in the browser, which is what a new window defaults to.

Right Click. Open In New Tab.
Ctrl+Click.
Middle Click.

Please don't change it. It's easy as a user to open in a new tab/window if you prefer (several ways noted above), but very difficult to do it the other way and open in the same tab/window if the site forces the opposite.

A vote to leave it as it is. As @RunningMan says, the status quo allows the user to decide whether to open in same or new window. The proposed change would essentially force the latter on all users whether they like it or not. I personally just ctrl-click all the topics I want to read and then change tabs to read each thread at my leisure. As @hio77 says this works for most sites so learning this method is useful nearly everywhere you go on the web.
