I can't figure out what's going on here. It is probably some stupid setting but nothing I try seems to help. The problem only occurs with Chrome (latest version) on my laptop while viewing Geekzone. Suddenly today, for no apparent reason, portions of certain Geekzone pages would only display in black, making some parts unreadable and other parts disturbing to look at. The effect only occurred on my laptop using the Chrome browser on Geekzone. It did not happen with other browsers or other computers or other web sites.

I fiddled around for awhile and uninstalled Edge, which I had been planning to do anyway. Suddenly the problem disappeared. The display seemed normal again. But a little later I discovered that no avatars are displaying. Everything else seems normal, text, icons, pictures, images, just no avatars. The spaces are all blank. If I copy one and paste it elsewhere, it appears normally.

Can anyone help me with this? It is driving me crazy.

Edit: At least some images pasted in posts are also not showing. YouTube videos are normal.

I've just updated, and am not seeing any issues after navigating around a half dozen pages.  Consider clearing your browser cache and see if that makes a difference?

Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't make any difference. The problem seems like a setting issue affecting Chrome on Geekzone only.

What ISP are you using? Is it possible it has routing problems to Cloudflare?

Hmmm.... I have seen a vageuely similar issue in the past that was caused by video drivers.  Multiple web sites were affected, and a video driver update fixed it.

If you have time up your sleeve, try going into Chrome settings and search for hardware - toggle the hardware acceleration on or off, relaunch, and see if it makes any sort of difference.

I just switched to my pc in another room and there is no problem here. It has to be something specific to laptop-Chrome-Geekzone.

Thanks, I will give that a try. I'm not having trouble with all images, or any particular format, just avatars and some images in posts. It feels like some kind of script thing but I don't know how to trace it.

Bingo! I just disabled hardware acceleration and relaunched and the problem is gone! You are the man, @Dynamic (if you are  a man, otherwise you are Wonder Woman).  Thank you so much.

Nice to hear that you have a resolution, @Rikkitic.  Perhaps set yourself a reminder to turn it back in in a couple of months after Chrome gets another update that might cure whatever is ailing your particular hardware/software combination.

Have you updated video drivers lately? Make sure they are always up-to-date.

No, I haven't. Honestly, I tend to avoid updates and yes, I know the arguments. But nearly every time I update something, it breaks something I depend on or causes unexpected side effects. I used to enjoy diagnosing faults, but I am elderly now and no longer have the patience or energy for that kind of thing. I just want things to work the way I am used to, and when they do I have no wish to mess with them. When they don't, I will try to find answers as I did today, but until that happens I prefer not to poke the bear.
