I notice when I post something my flag says Australia however my profile says NZ.

It's picking your IP up and the database says you're in Australia. I'm in New Zealand, but my one says Australia too.

You can't change it...

It looks at which IP address you are posting from on that particular post.

Yeah.  It's actually totally unimportant, but does have a mild amusement factor...

Lets check this reply from work (Xtra)

edit.  Says NZ so I guess Orcon (home)  must have a Ozz range of IP addresses..Laughing

What IP address geo location db is geekzone using?  There are a number of free databases and some are definately more accurate than others.

Perhaps there should be an override in edit profile where you can yourself as being in NZ if you ip is being detected as something other than what it actually is?

The flag is just an amusing thing - only logged in users can see it and it's a "reference". For example if you see someone posting with a German flag asking about Vodafone you'd expect people to know it's Vodafone Germany - and so on.

For moderators it is only one of the tools (we also provide IP lookup, WHOIS but only to moderators) that help us determine if the user is intentionally spamming the forum. There is a much higher chance of a post being deleted if coming from certain countries because of the high rate of spam from there).

So, in other words, I wouldn't worry about the flag. By the way, this post is coming with n American flag, but I am in a motel in Napier...
