Per title.

Another perk of being a subscriber is having bigger avatar limits.

This does drive up data cost but this would incentisize another reason to subscribe to this bloody amazing place.

Thanks for the idea. The avatar size is 80x80 and anything bigger would be... too much?

120x120 seems like it would fit.

Gif avatars anyone? (Please actually don't)

Please no. It's just more screen clutter and distraction. The lack of clutter, and focus on efficiant code is a real (positive) point of difference for this site.

Counter argument. I'm not asking to increase the file size. Just the avatar size itself. 200kb is actually too much for 80x80 considering this exact avatar is only less than 15kb.

Which is exactly the thing I was meaning to not increase. If the dimensions increase to 120x120 it more than doubles the screen area it takes, makes the columns look too squashed and out of proportion, and generally clutters the screen, all without adding value to the UI/UX (IMHO).

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Does subscribing change the avatar size or page layout? Not to my knowledge, so not sure that has any relevance.

A potential improvement could be the ability to upload a "2x" avatar, i.e. a 160x160 image that still fits in the 80x80 square, doubling the quality (on a high DPI screen) without changing the physical layout.

Yes, many old square ads from the early Internet days were 120x120 or 125x125. At that point, ad blockers would start defacing (even more) our pages.
